For far too long we’ve been taught to push down our challenging feelings, suppress them, compartmentalize them, ignore them, “be strong” and pretend like they don’t affect us. Yet we are now faced the biggest mental health pandemic we’ve ever known!
Processing emotions is one of the biggest ways to prevent mental health disorders. PPD, PPA, PPP… Learn to process the good and the challenging emotions and then give this gift to our children by modeling it for them.
One of the life changing books for me as a parent: Raising an Emotionally Intelligent Child by John & Julie Gottman. I highly recommend it to all parents.
These steps for processing emotions from Self Healers Circle are a place to start.

Got milk?
URGENT call out from BC Women’s Milk Bank!!! They are absolutely dried up for milk in the very near future! Down to 50% of normal capacity- this is bad news for very sick babies and will mean no access for community babies.
Apparently community hospital sites consume 2X as much milk as their donation volumes.
PLEASE!! Please consider filling out forms to donate. They are desperate. They NEED this human milk ASAP!!

Trauma can result from many experiences in our lives, bury itself deep in our bodies and manifest it in unsuspecting ways for years to come.
While having a trusted care provider during pregnancy and birth can help to reduce the chances of a traumatic experience, it doesn’t guarantee it. A therapist skilled in trauma recovery is an excellent source and always recommended.
Here are a few tips on how to start the journey of healing from a somatic perspective.

How can we help our little ones learn to manage those big emotions when they hit? Emotion coach them. Raising an Emotionally Intelligent Child by John and Julie Gottman is one of my favourite parenting books. Teaching our littles to understand and connect with what they are feeling and then showing them how to process and manage those feelings is as essential as learning to tie your shoes. We can model that behavior and we can help them learn it step by step by being their super-hero coaches in emotions. ❤️
