Intramuscular B vitamins injection is a therapy that I use regularly in practice and there are a variety of reasons why this would be warranted. Having a digestive condition such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) or irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) can compromise one’s ability to properly absorb certain nutrients like vitamin B12. Certain medications such as the oral contraceptive pill and certain stomach acid reducing medications also lower our concentrations of B12. Certain dietary restrictions could also require a person to ensure that they are getting adequate amounts of vitamin B12. Lastly, vitamin B12 deficiency increases with age (especially in elderly populations).

The signs and symptoms of a vitamin B12 deficiency or having suboptimal levels are wide ranging, which is why they can go unnoticed if not checked (simple blood test). Also, vitamin B12 deficiency symptoms are very similar to those of folate deficiency.

This is why one of the reasons why I add the active form of folate (5-MTHF) to my B12 injections.

If you feel like any of this might apply to you (or someone you know) and if this is a therapy you think you’d like to explore, let’s start by doing a proper assessment and take the guess work out. After all, why guess when you can test!

Sometimes it’s simply good to be goofy. Being a pensive person I at times come across as being too serious, but that’s just because I’m a thinker. Being married to my wife who is fun, funny and quite goofy at times has taught me to loosen up more often. This is just one of the ways that she brings balance to my life. —————————————————Comment “Balance” if your partner also complements your life. @ Restorative Health

Doing blood draws on each other (Dr. Vanessa Forstbauer, Naturopathic Doctor) to get our micronutrient levels tested. Yes, us naturopaths also get specialized tests done on ourselves.

Ever wondered if you have adequate levels of vitamins, antioxidants, minerals, and amino acids? Getting your micronutrient levels tested could help to remove the guess work in order to better personalize your treatment plan to you.

Ask your naturopathic doctor if this test is right for you.
