Ever wondered what that click might be in your jaw? Or have you ever had that click stop and then suddenly you can’t open your mouth? This may be related to a disc inside your jaw joint!
Each jaw joint has what is called an articular disc, which normally sits between your skull and the jawbone. However, this disc can get pulled forwards by muscle tension, postures, or certain habits. When it does, this disc can create a clicking sound when you are opening and closing your jaw. This happens as the disc “clicks” back into place. Now don’t panic yet, many people (up to 1 in 10) can have clicking in their jaw with minimal or no jaw pain or discomfort, and it may never develop into anything further. However, in some people the disc will get stuck and not click back into place. This can cause an often very painful and limiting condition called “lock jaw”. If you are experiencing locking in your jaw, targeted physiotherapy treatment can be extremely beneficial and help get the disc moving again, relax the muscles and help decrease your pain. 💪

Feeling that tight, stuck ache between your shoulder blades? 😣
It might be coming from your thoracic spine, the area connecting your ribs and spine!

Whether it’s from sitting at a desk all day, stress, or posture changes, limited motion in this region can cause:
💥 Mid-back tightness or stiffness
💥 Pain when breathing, twisting, or lifting
💥 Referred pain around the ribs or shoulder blades

✨ Chiropractic care can help! ✨

You don’t have to “just live with it”, small improvements in joint motion can make a big difference in comfort and mobility.

📅 Book your assessment with Dr. John Gallo our Chiropractor at www.claringtonphysio.ca or call us at 905-240-9355 and start feeling your best again!💚

This picture shows some common patterns for different muscles of the jaw to refer pain.
Many times people with muscle pain in the jaw start off thinking they have an ear infection due to the common pattern of feeling pain at the ear.
They can also contribute to headaches or pain in the teeth (that isn’t specifically related to your tooth!).
If you are experiencing pain or discomfort in any of these area’s, targeted TMJ physiotherapy treatment may be beneficial to help reduce your pain, prevent the muscle soreness from returning, and reduce long term complications of muscle tension.

The American Heart Association recommends at least 150 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic exercise per week — that's about 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week.

💡 Not sure if you're working at a moderate intensity?
You should be:

Breathing faster, but not out of breath

Able to talk, but not sing a full song

Regular physical activity can:

Support heart and lung function

Improve mental health

Help manage weight

Maintain joint and muscle health

Lower the risk of chronic disease

⚠️ If you have a pre-existing medical condition, speak with your doctor before starting a new exercise routine.

If pain, injury, or mobility restrictions are limiting your ability to move, physiotherapy can help. We’ll work with you to restore movement, manage pain, and build a plan that supports your goals — safely.
