Honouring Remembrance Day: Holding Space for Grief, Trauma, and Legacy

As we pause on this Remembrance Day, we honour those who served and those who continue to carry the visible and invisible wounds of war.

For some, this day brings solemn gratitude. For others, it may stir grief, trauma memories, or family legacies that are complex and painful. You don’t need to have served in the military to feel the ripple effects of loss, survival, or intergenerational trauma.

At Calming Minds, we believe in creating space for the full spectrum of human experience. Today, that includes honour, heartbreak, resilience, and remembrance.

Whether you're lighting a candle, attending a ceremony, or simply taking a quiet moment, know that it’s okay to feel whatever arises — or nothing at all.

“Sometimes remembering is an act of healing. Sometimes it's an act of courage.” (Sue Monk Kidd)

If this day feels heavy, you’re not alone. Therapy can be a place to unpack what you carry — at your pace, in your own way.

🎃 The Spooky Truth About ADHD (and Halloween!) đŸ‘»

Halloween can be a magical time for kids—but for those with ADHD, it can also be overwhelming.

Many neurodivergent kiddos experience challenges with social cues like saying “trick or treat,” making eye contact, or reading body language. They may also feel extra pressure to not stand out. Let’s be mindful and inclusive this Halloween.

🧠 ADHD brains experience the world through 8 senses, not 5. That means Halloween can be a sensory minefield: flashing lights, itchy costumes, unexpected noises, and sugar highs.

Here’s a mini Halloween Survival Guide for families navigating ADHD:

✹ Choose a soft, tag-free costume that feels good to wear

đŸ—ș Scout your trick-or-treating route ahead of time

🍬 Use a “candy calendar” to spread out treats and avoid sugar crashes

🕯 Bring noise-cancelling headphones or sunglasses if your child is sensitive to sound or light

đŸ€ Practice social scripts ahead of time (“thank you!” or “happy Halloween!”)

🌙 Know that it’s okay to skip houses, take breaks, or head home early

🌟 ADHD Awareness Month is a great time to normalize difference and build community. Let’s make space for all kids to enjoy the magic of Halloween🎃

Have a safe and Happy Halloween from the CMTW Team!

Not All Worry Is Bad—But Not All Worry Is Helpful, Either

It’s easy to think of worry as something we should just “turn off.”

But the truth is, some worry can be useful.

Productive worry helps us take action. This kind of worry is uncomfortable, but it moves us forward.

Unproductive worry, on the other hand, keeps us stuck. This kind of worry loops endlessly without resolution. It often leads to more anxiety, self-doubt, and exhaustion—not clarity or solutions.

When worry shows up, pause and ask yourself:
“Is this worry helping me take action?”
“Or is it keeping me stuck in fear or ‘what ifs’?”
If worry tends to take over your thoughts, you’re not alone.

Therapy can help you sort through the noise and reconnect with calm, clarity, and confidence.

At Calming Minds Wellness, we support adults navigating anxiety, ADHD, and life’s emotional overwhelm. If you’re curious about working together, we invite you to reach out when you’re ready.

Today, on Truth and Reconciliation Day, we pause to honour the children who never made it home, the survivors of residential schools, and the families and communities forever impacted. 🧡

Every child is sacred. Every child deserves to be loved, safe, and seen.

As we wear orange and reflect, may we commit to listening, learning, and taking meaningful steps toward reconciliation.
