Cochrane & Area Humane Society Meet your new best friend at the Cochrane & Area Humane Society! Dogs receive training and behaviour assistance to make them good canine citizens.

The Cochrane & Area Humane Society provides food, shelter, medical care and the opportunity for adoption for unwanted, surrendered, lost and unclaimed animals, while promoting responsible pet ownership through educational programs, rural spay/neuter programs and public fundraising events. At the Cochrane & Area Humane Society, homeless animals receive food, shelter, medical care, spay/neuter surgery, permanent identification and the chance for adoption into a new home. Lost pets are reunited with their guardians and the Society creates humane education programs to promote responsible pet guardianship. Children participate in Day Camps and victims of domestic violence are helped through the Pet Safe Program. Each year thousands of people call or come through our doors to surrender, adopt, claim lost pets, volunteer, seek advice, training or assistance, utilize our resource centre, attend humane education programs or make donations. We take in approximately 1,100 animals every year and are happy that we are able to successfully place or return home over 90% of them.

Skin and bones… just barely hanging on.
That’s how Lily & Pebbles arrived over a month ago. Both were severely emaciated and needed careful medical care. Our team placed them on strict feeding plans to avoid refeeding syndrome, a potentially fatal complication when food is reintroduced too quickly to a starved animal.
Today? They’re healthy, happy, and ready to find their forever families. 🐾
Stories like Lily and Pebbles’ are possible because of support from fundraisers like our Lucky Paws Raffle.

Not every hero is loud or fearless. Some just need someone patient enough to show them the world is safe. 🐾

Meet Simon, a sweet, sensitive boy who forms deep bonds with his people. He’s looking for a calm home with routine, gentle guidance, and a human who understands that trust takes time.

Simon loves quiet adventures like hikes, parks, and private off-leash spaces. He isn’t a busy dog-park type, but he may enjoy a calm dog companion and could live with dog-savvy cats with proper introductions. With his strong herding instincts, Simon would thrive with someone familiar with the breed and a secure fenced yard.

He’s hoping for a quiet adult home or one with respectful kids 15+.

Mia is home. 🐾

She’s settling in beautifully, chirps, loud purrs, tummy rubs (yes, really), and cozy naps in her donut bed or at her humans’ feet. Feather toys are officially approved.

She’s also met her new brother, George. A little hissing at first (fair), but they’ve already touched noses, we call that progress.

We couldn’t be happier for this sweet girl and her new family.
