Acupuncture helps with chronic pain!

Pain is felt in the body when a signal is transmitted to the central nervous system from the peripheral nervous system. Pain is a useful protective mechanism as it alerts the body that something is wrong prompting a reactive action or to facilitate healing.

Chronic or long lasting pain however, is when pain continues for an extended period. This can be due to the dysfunction of the pain control system. The descending pain control system is a series of brainstem pathways that can either reduce or enhance pain signals traveling up the spinal cord. This can result in the nervous system becoming over sensitized, resulting in pain being felt more quickly, more intense and lasting longer than before.

Electro-acupuncture has been shown to release pain relieving neuropeptides and activate the descending pain control system, inhibiting chronic pain signals. And we just so happen to offer that here at Salt!

As a reminder to our valued clients, this is our busy season, so if you're looking to use up your benefits or have some festive activities planned that might leave you sore, we suggest booking in advance to secure a spot!

ALSO, we are again participating in the Cochrane Activettes' Share Your Christmas Program!!
They are looking for new toys, toques, mitts, pj's and socks (no clothes), as well as any unexpired food donations, on behalf of the Cochrane Foodbank. Donations will be accepted until pickup on December 8th, so lets make someone's Christmas special!!
