The Safety Triangle represents the relationship between different types of workplace incidents. In its simplest form, it shows how a large number of minor incidents and unsafe behaviors can lead to a smaller number of serious injuries or even fatalities if left unaddressed.

The three tiers of the Safety Pyramid highlight the progression of workplace incidents:

Near-Misses (Base Level):
Events where no injury or damage occurs, but a hazardous condition exists.
Example: A worker slips on a wet floor but regains balance without falling.
Action: Investigate and address near-misses to prevent escalation.

Minor Injuries (Middle Level):
Incidents resulting in minor harm, such as cuts, sprains, or bruises.
Example: A worker trips over an uneven floor and sprains their ankle.
Action: Address underlying causes to prevent recurrence.

Major Injuries (Top Level):
The most severe incidents, including permanent disability or death.
Example: A fall from an unprotected height resulting in fatality.
Action: Focus on root cause analysis and systemic prevention measures.

Competency-Based, industry specific online training emphasizes what an employee can do rather than how much they know.
Competency-based online training is all about personalizing the experience. Every employee within your organization needs something different out of the online training course to become proficient. For an employee to be successful in completing an industrial safety course online, they must progress to the next online training module by first mastering the task or process at hand.
There are no time limits and keeping up with their peers is not a priority.

Many incidents can be prevented if a workforce is knowledgeable, watchful, and committed to creating a safe workplace community. This straight-talking, information-packed, practical, and personal Workplace Violence Awareness and Prevention online course will provide the information needed to build the necessary community within your Canadian organization.

Following the presentation of key information, learners will watch a riveting, realistic scene in which a troubled male employee, who has alarmed his co-workers, is confronted by his female supervisor. She does some things right — and some things crucially wrong. Each scene is explored, issue by issue, to drive home the message that awareness is critical and to detail the steps for prevention and response. This course is ideal for both supervisors and employees.

In Canada, suppliers, employers, and workers use the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) to communicate and identify the risks associated with products used in the workplace. WHMIS aligns with the Globally Harmonized System of Classification and Labelling of Chemicals (GHS) used by many countries around the world.

In December 2022, amendments to the Hazardous Products Regulations (HPR) meant changes to the previously used WHMIS 2015. Health Canada outlined a 3-year transition period to give those who use WHMIS time to make the necessary changes. As of December 2025, anyone who uses WHMIS must follow the amended HPR.

This course aims to give you a basic understanding of the system, including general principles, worker safety, and significant updates.

This course covers the following five chapters:

Chapter 1: What is WHMIS?
Chapter 2: Hazard Identification and Product Classification
Chapter 3: Labels
Chapter 4: Safety Data Sheets (SDS)
Chapter 5: Workplace Education and Training
This course includes activities, self-assessment questions, and a final exam.
