Simcoe Tai Chi is dedicated to movement that transforms lives, particularly Chen Style Tai Chi as taught by Grandmaster Ma Hong, but also QiGong, Kung Fu, and strength training. Chen Big Frame Family Style Tai Chi is a practice that brings the athlete and the meditator together. Its graceful spiral movements embody what Harvard School of Medicine calls “medication in motion”, and its deep stances and expansive postures build strength and martial power. A yin-yang balanced art, it is beneficial for all ages and experience levels, and give the benefits of both Chinese medicine and martial arts. QiGong is literally translated as “working on the breath”, and can be described as Chinese Yoga or healing exercise. Practices are varied and adaptable to individual fitness goals. We use QiGong to develop Tai Chi principles in our practice. Kung Fu is an umbrella term that refers to any Chinese martial art. Presently, instruction is also available in Six Harmony Ten Animal Xin Yi Quan and Shi Style Ba Gua Zhang. Strength training refers to any activity that increases strength. A veritable fountain of youth, strength training has the potential to help us age slower, change our body composition from fat and unhealthy to lean and powerful, and offers a host of other positive side effects. At Simcoe Tai Chi, we employ both ancient and modern methods, such as kettle bells, bodyweight exercise, and TRX suspension training.
