Veterans, Comox Valley community leaders, and businesses came together for VinoSpa Speaks Out: A Veteran’s Perspective at 40 Knots Winery
yesterday. The sold out audience heard stories and learned of the challenges faced by families and veterans as they transition back to civilian life

Sergeant Major Tim Turner provided an emotional first hand account of his military experiences and “civilian translator’ Karen Turner shared her intense and sometimes funny life with her ’soldier husband’. Comox Valley RCMP Cpl. Tori Cliffe and Sergeant Mike Rude of The Rude Awakening Tour joined our panel to provide a broader perspective

It was a very impactful, emotional day with a little dash of humour. Funds raised were donated to the Operation Pegasus Foundation, and tandem parachute jumps were donated and auctioned

That’s it for VinoSpa Speaks Out 2023. Speakers and charities for the 2024 series are being finalized! We will share those plans shortly so you can schedule those dates in your calendar

For many of us, this is a reality that we will never know. Join us on Wednesday, November 1st as we welcome keynote speaker, Veteran Sergeant Major Tim (Gunny) Turner, and our incredible guest panelists Karen Turner and Cpl. Tori Cliffe

Although there are many resources available to assist in the transition to civilian life, there are still those lost in our community who continue to suffer from mental and physical illnesses that often lead to an inability to cope in society and homelessness. It is estimated that over 90% of those who served as military and first responders suffer from a form of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, resulting in an inability to seek out and use these resources

VinoSpa Speaks Out: A Veteran’s Perspective welcomes keynote speaker decorated Veteran Sergeant Major Tim (Gunny) Turner to share his story as a Canadian soldier and the impact his experiences have on his life and his family. It focuses in on the impact on those who serve and their family when returning home to their community, and the perspective of what happens when they “stop” the service

Here’s what you can look forward to at the November 1st event 🍽️

-Roast pumpkin and parsnip soup

-Glory Bowl: Roasted sweet potato
tossed in a fig balsamic and fresh basil dressing, beet and barley goat feta salad with RAD Farms mixed sprouts, toasted seeds with multi-coloured carrot ribbons, shredded cabbage, garam masala chickpeas with chimichurri, all served on a bed of warm coconut rice

-Autumn Trio dessert: Butternut squash crème brulee, double chocolate ginger cookie, olive oil apple cake topped with smoked plum cream
