⚠️ State of Emergency Lifted

The Town of Conception Bay South advises that water levels have now returned to adequate levels.

As a result:

• The State of Emergency is lifted effective immediately.
• All businesses may now reopen.
• The Mandatory Water Conservation Order has also been lifted. Residents are reminded that it is always wise to use water responsibly.

This emergency water disruption originated from a break on the St. John’s Regional Water Authority transmission main that supplies Conception Bay South. We are grateful to the City of St. John’s Regional Water Authority for completing the repairs, and to Town staff who worked throughout the emergency to maintain the system and support the safe return of service to our community.

At this time, as water restoration remains in progress, residents may experience minor water discolouration and pressure fluctuations. If you experience discoloured water, run the cold water tap in a sink until it clears.

The Town of Conception Bay South would like to thank residents and businesses for their patience and cooperation. We also extend our sincere thanks to our regional fire partners. The Fire Departments of Portugal Cove–St. Philip’s and Torbay stood by with water, ready to assist. We also want to acknowledge the Holyrood Fire Department and the St. John’s Regional Fire Department for their preparedness and willingness to respond if needed.

⚠️Water Outage Update – Tuesday, September 2, 10:00 p.m.

The source of the leak has been identified as coming from a piece of pipe owned and managed by the St. John’s Regional Water Authority. They are completing repairs and will provide an update in the morning.

The Town has a limited reserve of emergency water supply that is available for fire suppression activities only. As a result and with resident safety at the forefront, directives concerning business closures and water conservation remain in place with the following exceptions:

🔸Effective 8.00 am tomorrow, Pharmacies may open for urgent prescription services only.
🔸If located within a grocery store, only the pharmacy section may open for prescriptions only.
🔸Gas stations may open for fuel sales only.

Businesses operating under this exemption must provide appropriate hygiene measures for their staff, including hand washing capability and toilet services.

The Town also wishes to advise that garbage and recycling for tomorrow will be proceeding as scheduled. All other Town facilities will remain closed to the public.

As a precautionary measure, residents may want to switch off the breaker to hot water tanks to prevent issues with heating elements. Properly installed plumbing should limit any issues.

The Town apologizes for any inconvenience residents may be experiencing. The Town will provide updates as they become available from the City of St. John's.

The latest update from the town…

State of Emergency Update: Tuesday, Sept 2, 5:00 p.m.

The City of St. John’s Regional Water Services has identified the watermain break location on transmission line which provides water to the Town. Their repair plans are currently underway.

At this time, no additional details are available.

We will continue to provide updates as new information becomes available.

We are in the process of closing and canceling everyone’s appointments for the day today due the state of emergency below.

You can leave a voicemail or send an email and we will get you rebooked as soon as we can!

Due to water supply loss from the Regional Water Authority to the Town of Conception Bay South only, the Town has declared a State of Emergency, effective immediately. It appears the Town’s water supply will be completely depleted in short order meaning there will be no water available for homes or businesses.

As a result of this emergency:

🚫All businesses in the Town of Conception Bay South are directed to close immediately to conserve remaining water for Fire Department/emergency use only.
💧A Mandatory Water Conservation Order is in effect. All residents are required to limit water use to emergency needs only.

The Town is working closely with regional partners and emergency services to monitor and address the situation. Updates will be provided as new information becomes available. We appreciate the public’s cooperation as we work together to protect and preserve our water supply.

*Please note that as a result, tonight's Town Council meeting will be postponed until further notice.
