👀 Don’t Forget Your Child’s Eye Exam!

Did you know many vision problems in kids can go undetected because children often don’t realize their vision isn’t normal? Clear vision is essential for learning, reading, and development.

That’s why regular eye exams are so important.

✔️ Detect vision problems early
✔️ Support better learning and concentration
✔️ Ensure healthy eye development
✔️ Catch eye conditions before they affect school performance

In Ontario, children’s eye exams are covered through Ontario Health Insurance Plan (OHIP) for those 19 and under, making it easy to stay on top of their eye health.

If your child hasn’t had an eye exam in the past year, now is the perfect time to book one. Healthy vision helps them succeed in the classroom and beyond.

📅 Book their eye exam today. Appointments available over March Break.

February Eye Care Challenge #12: Use a warm compress for 5-10 minutes

👁️ Why Warm Compresses Are One of the BEST Things You Can Do for Your Eyes 🔥

If your eyes feel dry, tired, or irritated — a simple warm compress can make a big difference!

✨ Benefits of warm compresses:
✔️ Helps unclog oil glands in your eyelids (Meibomian glands)
✔️ Improves tear quality and reduces dry eye symptoms
✔️ Relieves eyelid inflammation and irritation
✔️ Reduces styes and eyelid swelling
✔️ Soothes screen-tired eyes

💡 Why it works:
Healthy tears need oil to prevent evaporation. Heat softens the natural oils in your eyelids so they flow properly — keeping your eyes comfortable and hydrated.

🕒 How to do it:
• Use a clean warm (not hot) compress
• Place over closed eyes for 5–10 minutes
• Repeat daily for best results
Consistency matters — think of it as a daily spa treatment for your eyes! 😌
📍Experiencing dryness, burning, or fluctuating vision? A dry eye assessment can help identify the cause and the right treatment plan.

February Eye Care Challenge #11: Read a book and not a screen

Did you know reading a physical book can be easier on your eyes than reading on a screen?

Here’s why picking up a book is a win for your vision 👇

👀 Less Eye Strain
Screens emit light directly into your eyes, forcing them to work harder. Printed pages reflect light naturally, making reading more comfortable for longer periods.

💧 Fewer Dry Eye Symptoms
When we read on phones or tablets, we blink less — which can lead to dryness, irritation, and tired eyes. Reading a physical book helps maintain a more natural blink rate.

🌙 Better Sleep
Screen exposure (especially at night) can interfere with your body’s sleep cycle. A real book helps your brain wind down without blue-light disruption.

🧠 Improved Focus
No notifications. No scrolling. Just uninterrupted reading — which reduces visual fatigue and helps your eyes stay relaxed.

✅ Eye-Healthy Tip:
If you do read on screens, follow the 20-20-20 rule: every 20 minutes, look 20 feet away for 20 seconds.

Your eyes work hard all day — give them a break with a good book tonight 📖

February Eye Care Challenge #10: Take a daily Omega-3 Supplement

If you are finding it hard to add Omega 3s to your daily diet, why not try a daily supplement?

💧 Why Omega-3s matter for your eyes:
✔️ Help support a healthy tear film and reduce dry eye symptoms
✔️ Support the oil glands in your eyelids (meibomian glands)
✔️ Reduce inflammation that can contribute to irritation and discomfort
✔️ Support long-term retinal and macular health

If you experience burning, watering, fluctuating vision, or tired eyes — your body may benefit from daily Omega-3 support.

February Eye Care Challenge #9: Eat Omega 3 Rich Foods

Omega-3 fatty acids play an important role in maintaining healthy tears and reducing eye inflammation. These healthy fats help support the oily layer of your tear film — which keeps tears from evaporating too quickly and helps prevent dry, irritated eyes.

Adding omega-3 rich foods to your diet may help:
✨ Improve tear quality
✨ Reduce dry eye symptoms
✨ Support retinal and long-term eye health
✨ Keep eyes more comfortable during screen time

🥑 Omega-3 foods to add to your plate:
• Salmon & sardines
• Mackerel & tuna
• Chia seeds & flaxseed
• H**p seeds

Small changes in your diet can make a big difference for your eye comfort and overall wellness.
