Approximately 80% of adults who made New Year's resolutions made ones that focused on health, exercise, or diet — yet most gave up long before those goals could become a habit! It's not too late.
Recent research shows that it takes more than a few months for a health-related goal to become a habit. You can still achieve your New Year's Resolution.

Did you know that a portion of your cheque goes towards paying for your extended benefit coverage, so if you aren’t using them, you’re essentially giving that part of your salary to the insurance company. Be sure to apply your benefits to put your health first.

High levels of circulating insulin drives chronic disease even more than high levels of blood glucose. Hyperinsulinemia is the silent driver behind obesity, type 2 diabetes, fatty liver disease, and more.
Hyperinsulinemia, which is high circulating levels of insulin, underlies many chronic diseases, including obesity and type 2 diabetes.

I have been doing a "deep dive" into cells — the second half of the bi-hormonal system that includes cells, that make insulin. Alpha and beta cells are suppose to work in harmony — but don't in someone that has , even if it's been in remission.

Kinda cool, part 2. This morning, I received an email that the research study I published 16 years ago in mental health nutrition just received its 78th citation.

A while back, I was in a hurry and grabbed a protein bar with only 1g of sugar, assuming the sugar alcohol (polyol) would have a negligible impact. A short while later, I felt terrible, and when I checked my blood sugar, it was 13.5 mmol/L (243 mg/dL) —a staggering spike. That's what led me to do the research for this new article, titled "Maltitol Has a Significant Impact on Blood Sugar and Insulin.". https://bbdnutrition.com/2026/02/05/maltitol-impact-on-blood-sugar-and-insulin/

Not all sugar alcohol sweeteners (polyols) are equal. While erythritol has a negligible impact on blood sugar and insulin, maltitol is a different story. Get the breakdown here.
Not all sugar alcohols are equal. Maltitol impacts blood sugar and insulin levels, and matters for type 2 diabetes and net carb calculations.

People often use diagnostic terms to describe physical or mental health symptoms, but a diagnosis requires direct assessment by a professional with training to distinguish between conditions with similar symptoms.
A diagnosis is a process, not a label.
Effective treatment requires an accurate diagnosis that distinguishes between symptoms of different physical & mental health conditions.

If PCOS is primarily a hormone and reproductive disorder, then the approach to treatment would be different than if high levels of male hormones and chronic failure to ovulate were symptoms. This new article looks at PCOS as a metabolic disorder.
Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) is a misnomer because it focuses on it as a hormone disorder, rather than a metabolic disorder.
