This is the approach that Dr. Elena uses when working with parents and caregivers to help them make sense of their kids' behaviours. Right now she's taking a one year intensive training with Robyn Gobbel, and will start offering parenting groups in the fall of 2025. Currently, she uses this approach one-to-one with parents. We're super excited! 💜🩵🦉🐕🐁

This is so important! Appearing calm does not always mean regulated. Robyn Gobbel is so skilled at breaking this stuff down in an easy to understand manner. I'm so excited to be taking an intensive year long training with her starting in January '25 so I better support parents, kiddos, and their school communities ♥ - Dr. Elena

We cannot send kids away to calm down and think this is teaching
self regulation.

They may learn how to ignore their distress and ultimately appear calm, but that’s not the same thing as regulation.

So what is self regulation anyway? And really? It doesn't exist?!?!?!

Yup. Really.

Such exciting news. This is my absolute favourite parenting book to tell parents about. It is definitely *not* your typical parenting book. Robyn Gobbel has such compassion for how hard it can be when you're parenting a child with big bevaviours. Anyone who has been talking to me lately knows that I am all about the nervous system and how to be a child's external regulator. As parents, we are human, so we sometimes will inevitably flip our lids when our kids are flipping. But it *is* possible to stay regulated when your child is overwhelmed with big feelings 💫♥️
