As the year comes to a close, reflection doesn’t have to mean self-criticism.
Tonight is an opportunity to gently acknowledge what you experienced, how you showed up, and what you learned along the way. Growth isn’t always visible or dramatic—it often happens quietly, in moments of rest, reflection, and self-respect.
You don’t need to rush into goals or resolutions. Beginning the new year with compassion and curiosity is more than enough.
Wishing you a peaceful close to the year and a gentle start to the next 🤍

Low energy is often treated like a problem to override, when it’s usually a signal to reorganize — not push. It can be telling you that your system is overloaded, overextended, or needing more internal space.

Responding with small shifts in expectations, attention, and mental load can be more regulating than trying to rest harder or perform better. ✨

📝 A Therapist’s Notes on December Dynamics

December, with all of its traditions and gatherings, has a way of pulling us back into old family roles—the fixer, the peacekeeper, the one who never says no, the black sheep... These patterns are familiar, but they’re not always healthy.

This is where boundaries are essential. Not as walls, but as clarity.

🌟 Internal boundaries:
“I’ll check my capacity before I commit.”
“I’m not responsible for managing the room.”
“I am allowed to meet my own needs, regardless of anything else.”

🌟 External boundaries:
“I can come for an hour.”
“I’m not discussing that topic today.”
“I need a break—I’ll be back in a few minutes.”

Boundaries can feel uncomfortable at first. That’s normal. It’s your nervous system learning something new.

Here are three common December patterns to watch for and how you might be able to set a boundary:
1️⃣ The Emotional Caretaker
Boundary: “I care, but I’m not mediating this.”

2️⃣ The Automatic Yes
Boundary: “I’m not available for that this year.”

3️⃣ The Role Regression
Boundary: “ I am an adult, and can make adult choices regardless of how I’m being treated or what expect expectations around me look like.”

And don’t forget self-boundaries: pacing your plans, protecting your downtime, and offering yourself gentleness when old habits show up.

You’re allowed to grow, even if the family system hasn’t. 💝

This season, may your boundaries help you stay connected—without losing yourself.

Take a look at these facts, quoted directly from the United Nations page on International Day of Persons with Disabilities:

"🔘An estimated 1.3 billion people experience significant disability. This represents 16% of the world’s population, or 1 in 6 of us.

🔘Some persons with disabilities die up to 20 years earlier than those without disabilities.

🔘Persons with disabilities have twice the risk of developing conditions such as depression, asthma, diabetes, stroke, obesity or poor oral health.

🔘Health inequities arise from unfair conditions faced by persons with disabilities, including stigma, discrimination, poverty, exclusion from education and employment, and barriers faced in the health system itself."

At Kayda Health, we believe that each and every person should stand for inclusion and accessibility. Here are some pragmatic ways we endeavor to do so ourselves:

🔘We offer virtual sessions so clients can access therapy from anywhere.
🔘We offer a number of sliding scale and pro bono sessions so that therapy is financially accessible.
🔘 We actively work to educate our community - attempting to chip away at discrimination/ stigma
🔘We consider and recommend accommodations in and out of therapy.
🔘We offer flexible appointment scheduling
🔘We collaborate as needed with the broader care team for our clients, advocating for services or supports when needed.

We'd love to know: What's something you do that can help address the inequities that overlap with with disabilities? Do you have any ideas for our clinic about how we can better stand with Persons with Disabilities?

Taking a moment each day to notice what you’re grateful for isn’t just a “feel-good” exercise—it actually rewires your brain to handle stress more easily, sleep more soundly, and connect more deeply with others.

Even small steps, like listing 3 things you appreciate daily, can create a gentle ripple of positive change in your life.

Emotional avoidance often starts as protection.
We learn early that certain emotions are “too much,” so we push them down, stay busy, or pretend we’re fine — hoping they’ll fade on their own.

But emotions don’t disappear when ignored; they wait. They build pressure, surfacing as irritability, numbness, or exhaustion.

Facing your emotions doesn’t mean drowning in them — it means letting yourself acknowledge what’s real so it can finally pass through.
Feeling is how we heal.

If you’re ready to explore your emotions in a safe, supportive space, our counselors can help—Visit the link in bio to learn more or book a session.💛
