🛑 November is Falls Prevention Month!

Did you know that falls are the #1 cause of injury-related death, hospitalization, and ER visits among older adults in Canada?
In 2018, falls cost $5.6 billion — nearly 20% of the total cost of injury in the country.

As we age, our bodies naturally change — affecting balance, strength, and mobility. But the good news is that most falls are preventable! 💪

Here are a few simple ways to stay safe and independent:
✅ Exercise regularly to build balance and strength
✅ Get enough sleep and take your time moving
✅ Eat well and stay hydrated
✅ Review your medications with your doctor or pharmacist
✅ Keep your home well-lit and free of tripping hazards
✅ Wear sturdy, well-fitting shoes

Let’s make fall prevention part of healthy aging.
💙 Together, we can keep older adults safe, strong, and confident!

📚 Seaway Valley Community Health Centre provides a fall prevention program called Balance for Life!

💙 November is National Caregiver Month!

Across Canada, more than 8 million caregivers support their loved ones — family members, friends, and neighbours — with compassion and dedication every day.

Many don’t even see themselves as caregivers. They think of themselves simply as a daughter, husband, child, or neighbour helping someone they love. 💞

But caregiving can be both rewarding and challenging — and it’s important to know that support is available for you, too.

At Seaway Valley CHC, we’re proud to offer a 6-week program called Powerful Tools for Caregivers (PTFC), designed to help caregivers take care of themselves while caring for others. 🌿

Our fall PTFC session will soon wrap up — stay tuned for details on the next one!

This National Caregiver Month, let’s take a moment to thank and celebrate all the caregivers who give so much!

🌧️ Mindfulness in the Rain 🌿

Today was our second Mood Walk, and our theme was mindfulness — taking time to slow down and truly connect with our senses. We focused on what we could see, hear, smell, taste and feel in the moment… simply being present and enjoying nature’s beauty.

Despite the rain, our spirits were bright! From the smiles I saw today, it’s clear that a little damp weather couldn’t dampen our moods — friendship and laughter lightened our spirits instead.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who came out and to Linda for beautifully facilitating today’s walk. 💚

Please enjoy a few pictures from our walk — hugging trees, listening to the gentle rain, admiring the beauty of puddles and the vibrant colours all around us. 🍂🌳💧

What a lovely way to end Community Health and Wellbeing month 2026!
