Today, December 21, marks the shortest day and longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. The word solstice comes from the Latin solstitium, meaning “sun stands still”—and from here on, the days slowly begin to grow longer again.

Many cultures around the world have celebrated this moment for centuries with festivals of light, warmth, and renewal. It’s also the perfect evening for a little stargazing, with Orion, Ta**us, and Gemini shining brightly in the winter sky.

Here’s to brighter days ahead! 🌟

Every year on December 10, the world celebrates Human Rights Day, marking the anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights (UDHR) — a groundbreaking document that affirms the rights and freedoms every person is entitled to, no matter who they are or where they come from.

Adopted by the United Nations in 1948, the UDHR laid out, for the first time, a universal set of rights to be protected worldwide. It continues to guide laws, policies, and the global commitment to equality and dignity for all, and forms the foundation of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

With translations in 577 languages, it is the most translated document in the world — a reminder that human rights belong to everyone.
