Did you know that partner support and attitude towards breastfeeding greatly affects breastfeeding rates and duration!? 🤱 Include your partner in discussions about breastfeeding and make sure they also receive education on its many benefits! (😉 It can also be helpful to give moms or mother in laws or any other important supports up to date information as well)

A cup is a great way to avoid artificial ni***es, especially in the first few days and/or if baby is having latching issues. It is easy to do, even for a newborn, and when done properly research shows it causes less desaturations (drops in baby’s oxygen levels) and less choking episodes then a bottle!

My tip for today, when facing breastfeeding challenges set small, short term goals and be kind to yourself! Reach out, talk to other moms going through similar experiences it can be therapeutic. There was moments (like these ^^) that I loved but my overall experience in the beginning was not what I thought it was going to be like. It was hard and exhausting at times and didn’t come without it’s challenges. I remember telling myself over and over just make it to six months. But things got easier and I’m so happy I kept going and got to enjoy the breastfeeding experience.

Why? I once read up to 30% of babies who go on to breast feed are unable to latch in the first day or are unable to latch each try. Breastfeeding is a learning experience and attempts should only last 10-15 min, especially if baby is getting frustrated. Hand-expressing in the first 24 hours allows you to supply your baby with colostrum if an attempt at a feed doesn’t work out and also helps stimulate your breasts which helps bring in your milk and establish your supply!

Did you know that being skin-to-skin with your baby not only improves your milk production but it also helps your baby maintain their blood sugars and body temperature (your body can actually increase or decrease its own body temperature for baby), stabilizes their heart rate, respiratory rate, & blood pressure, all while improving their brain development and brain function!
