👁️ Element 27: Amblyopia (Lazy Eye)
Amblyopia, or “lazy eye,” is a vision condition that often develops in young children when one eye becomes weaker than the other. Over time, the brain begins to rely on the stronger eye, causing the weaker one to lag behind — and if left untreated, vision in that eye can worsen permanently.
👓 Treatment focuses on retraining the brain to use the weaker eye. This can include patching the stronger eye, using corrective glasses, applying special eye drops, or in some cases, surgery.
💡 Early detection is key! Regular eye exams for children can help catch amblyopia early and protect their long-term vision.
