Solstice of Peace INFO: https://solsticepeace.org/

The Solstice Peace Project is calling for events around the world during the Solstice, the longest night of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, and shortest night in the Global South.
From the Solstice of Peace Website:

***Solstice Peace Project***
To celebrate peace on the Dec. 22, the Winter Solstice, the day that heralds the return of the light in the Northern Hemisphere. The project would use the solstice to prompt linked actions worldwide that encourage peace.

There is a heaviness touching the hearts of people worldwide. It not just the wars in Europe, the Middle East and Africa. It’s because we are connected on so many different levels and feel each other’s distress deeply. This is why we can lighten the world’s burden by praying for peace and performing actions – both symbolic and substantial in their hopefulness – to promote peace. We can emphasize the power of peace by focusing on peace and amplifying its impact by coming together to call for peace.

***The Goal***
To ignite the light of peace in the hearts of participants and to encourage the spread of peace at a time of increasing conflict and violence.

***The Roots***
The Winter Solstice in the Northern Hemisphere is traditionally a time for welcoming back the light. Winter Solstice: honoring the Return of Light. It is also a time of specific observances in various religious traditions, including Hannukah (Dec. 7-15 2023), Christmas (Dec. 25, 2023), Bodhi Day (Dec. 8, 2023) and Yalda Night (Dec. 20-21) in Iran and other parts of Central Asia.

***Actions***
These actions would focus only on peace, eschewing politics and the taking of sides.
1
To reach out to religious community leaders to ask for their support. To request religious leaders to encourage their congregations to hold services for peace on Dec. 22, 2023. As it is a Friday, mosques and synagogues will be holding services anyway. We would encourage the addition of a special Friday service for Christians and the holding of special services in Hindu and Buddhist temples and Sikh gurdwaras.
2
To invite communities worldwide to hold an event promoting peace on Dec. 22, the day that heralds the return of the light in the Northern Hemisphere. The event could take be in any form – a religious service, a concert, a reading, a moment of communal silence,
3
To encourage people to place a candle in their window to promote peace on the night of Dec. 21-21 as a symbol of the presence of peace and to encourage the promotion of peace.

How's this for a great story...Rivers in Indian lore, particularly their shaded riparian groves and stands of tall, concealing rushes, are in convention the site of clandestine trysts. Lal Ded’s husband became soured by his mother’s suspicion and one day when Lalla entered the house with a pot of water on her head, struck it with his staff in a fit of violent jealousy. The earthenware jug shattered but the water remained “frozen” in place, atop her head, until Lalla had poured it into the household containers. A little leftover water she tossed out the door where it formed a miraculous lake, said to exist in the early twentieth century, but dry today.

Lalla's mystic life combined Sufi and Kashmiri Shaivism reflections...what happened to those days when mystics were the most revered in the land...

Translations of the works of the 13th century poet by Andrew Schelling.

The Great Work - Contemplation in Action
George Wahl ·

·
the flying carpet
Sometimes
we feel trampled by those we love
Seasons of dirt are wiped on every fibre of our being
Our "I" may feel disparaged
our "I" may feel used and abused
our "I" may feel down trodden and muddied
The disparagements may feel relentless
the inner despair may grow
As that which feels soiled, one may come to feel they have no worth,
no value
And yet even in the depths of diminishment
one may come to recall a day in one's early life
where the fibres of our being were untouched
pristine, innocent, free and peaceful
A day may come of renewal
where one remembers one’s original face
A day may come where one bears witness
to your own effort to finally begin the great washing
Where you face the deeply ingrained layers that have become part of you
Days in which you witness darkened rivers carrying away
layer after layer of imagined harm, disparagement and self centeredness
Where long forgotten colors begin to reappear with
the waters of self awareness, the soap of remembrance, the scrubbing of silence, the coarse brush of reflection
A day when you join with something far greater than just you, graced with wisdom and compassion to realize one's self as both the washed and the washer.....and thereby will have learnt to fly...

A MEDITATION ON PEACE
breathe in: This is not my body
breath out: It is the Temple of God...33 times, then...
breathe in: Come worship with me
breath out: In this Temple of Yours 33 times, then...how does this feel? then ....
breathe in: In unison with the will of God
breathe out: we wish for peace...33 times...all in silence speaking to your own heart/mind and sending the energy at first to yourself then radiate outward to cover the planet
