Owen Giroux, RMT I am an RMT and Personal Trainer who loves working with complex orthopedics and injury rehabilitation I also welcome ICBC cases and surgical rehab.

I'm nearing a decade of experience, including years in spas, multidisciplinary clinics, and educational roles. My favourite work includes advanced orthopedic care and recoveries - I've been fortunate enough to have worked a lot with this patient-population with the multiple Physiotherapy clinics I've been involved with. With experience as a mentor-tutor for the governing body of Ontario (CMTO), a clinic supervisor in a Vancouver RMT program, and further private tutoring roles, I've maintained a love for teaching and enhancing the profession as much as I can. My background includes years of weight training and yoga, and I'm also a CSEP-Certified Personal Trainer with a leading national body.

We've had a few scorchers lately and that's getting everyone outside! Fantastic!

Besides using sunscreen, don't forget the self care. When we're using muscles that haven't been worked in a few months, soreness and irritation are extremely normal. You're doing the right thing getting active, but be forgiving while the body catches up to you.

As the weather warms, we venture back out to pick up the reins we'd set down over the winter. Getting back to the sports we love can be a shock as we find we're more stiff and sore than expected.

With the winter deepening, we might be feeling the SADs along with the cold.

Aside from mechanical tension aggravated by the chilly weather, the darker months can intensify our struggles with mental health - such conditions are known to have physical effects, which is where we come in.

Massage therapy can help with headaches and tension, can provide a space to relax and get away from the world, and for many is facilitated self-care.

With the snow inbound and Mount Washington opening, you'll need your hips and back strong for the adventures.

Massage can help with recovery of strains and stiff muscles, and try to focus your workouts for the season:

🏔 Stability training - this will help walking on icy surfaces and with staying upright on the slopes

❄️ Knee and hip strengthening (squats and lunges!) - don't get tired halfway through your day, it's expensive enough for the day pass!

🏂 Rotational core workouts - whether your shredding the ski hills or carrying groceries on the slippery driveway, these guys are very important.

I suffer from lower back pain myself. It's one of the most common things I work with, and with the relative complexity of the lower back, pelvis, hips, and core, it's one of my favourite areas to work on.

Most of the time we can achieve substantial relief in as little as one or two session, but no treatment plan have lasting relief without some strengthening and stretching.

We'll work together to address your pain but also make sure you understand what's happening and how you can manage the issue at home to recover faster.
