🧘‍♂️ The 2-Minute Posture Reset

Feeling a bit "slumped" after a morning of sitting? Your posture isn’t just about how you look—it’s the foundation of your balance!

For our friends in the neurological community, sitting for long periods can "quiet" the sensory input your brain receives about where your body is in space. We like to call this your Internal GPS. When your GPS is recalibrated, you move with more confidence and less effort.

Try this right now:

Sit or stand tall.

Imagine a silver string attached to the very top of your head, gently pulling you toward the ceiling.

Feel your spine lengthen, your shoulders drop away from your ears, and your chest open up.

Why it works: This simple "reset" aligns your center of gravity, making it easier for your nervous system to keep you steady when you stand up to walk.

Spring is here, and it's time to get moving! If you're finding it hard to "find your center" or feel unsteady on your feet, let’s chat. Our Balance and Beyond program is designed to fine-tune your internal GPS so you can enjoy the East Kootenay sunshine with total confidence.

🌷 Quick Tips for a Sturdy Spring

I keep hoping and saying it is spring, but the weather this week is saying otherwise! With all the transitions between snow and ice and bare pavement, slips and trips are a high risk in the spring time. Here are some tips to help keep you safe this spring.

Check Your Treads: Winter salt and slush can wear down the rubber tips on canes and walkers. Inspect your mobility aids for wear and tear, and ensure your spring shoes have non-slip, supportive soles.

The "Puddle" Policy: Spring showers bring puddles that can hide uneven pavement or slippery mud. Whenever possible, walk around wet patches rather than through them to avoid unexpected slick spots.

Boost Your Visibility: Bright spring sun can create harsh glares and deep shadows, which can be tricky for those with neurological vision changes. Wear polarized sunglasses to reduce glare and help you see changes in terrain more clearly.

Garden Smarter, Not Harder: If you’re heading back into the garden, use a sturdy gardening stool or kneeler with handles. Avoid overreaching while planting; keep your work close to your "center of gravity" to stay balanced.

Scan the Path: Practice "horizon scanning." Instead of looking directly at your feet, look about 10 feet ahead. This gives your brain more time to process obstacles and adjust your gait before you reach them.

March 8 is a global tribute to the achievements of women in society, culture, and beyond. But at NeuroAlign, we know that true equality includes the right to health and physical confidence.

Many women silently navigate the challenges of pelvic health—limiting their exercise, work, and daily joy due to "light leaks" or discomfort. We’re here to change that narrative. Our goal is to help you align your health with your ambitions so you can show up fully for yourself and your community.

At NeuroAlign we utilize the Core Confidence method to improve alignment and activation of the core and pelvic floor. Through strengthening and functional movement we help you to be more confident and empowered in your life.

Are you excited to be done with February? We are, and we are looking forward to more spring like days. But, it's not all clear sailing yet. With all the mucky snow and melting ice, there are still reasons to tread carefully...

🌷 Why Spring Is a High-Risk Season for Falls

As snow melts, we see:

⚠️ Uneven sidewalks
⚠️ Hidden ice patches
⚠️ Slippery gravel
⚠️ Deconditioning after winter

Many people feel more confident heading outdoors — but balance and strength may not yet be ready.

Spring is the perfect time to:
✔️ Reassess your fall risk
✔️ Rebuild leg strength
✔️ Practice outdoor walking strategies
✔️ Review footwear and gait aids

Don’t wait for a fall to take action.

Exercise is medicine! This is true for many chronic conditions but is especially important in conditions like Parkinson’s. Check out some of the newest guidelines and recommendations from the Parkinson’s foundation.

Connecting with a therapist who has specialized training in Parkinsons is so important. Both Beth and Shawndelle have completed the PWR!Moves course which focuses on improving clients’ mobility, bradykinesia, and rigidity as well as other non motor symptoms. Early and consistent intervention is the key to improving quality of life in those living with Parkinson’s.
