Do you feel lost with your teen? Like a hostage in your own home, having to walk on eggshells around emotional outbursts, addictive behavior, depression and anxiety? Are you struggling to understand what is going on for them and how to support them?

Many parents feel totally powerless in the face of their youth's struggles. And mental health systems don't always provide us with the answers.

At Creekside, we understand mental health and addiction for young people as an issue of human development. We will help you understand how your child's developmental trajectory has gotten off course and give you the skills to help it get back on track.

It is not that simple though -- there is a catch!! You and your family didn't get to this place for no reason. There are good reasons for why things have unfolded as they have. We will work together to understand that and to discover how you need to grow as a person in order to support your child more effectively through this particular period of their development.

In our work together you will be invited to rediscover the resources you already have to develop the structure, boundaries, connection, and emotional regulation that you and your child need to get through this phase in your lives. We will help you develop self-awareness to set the trajectory for your own unique growth and competence, and we guarantee that it will be transformational for both you and your child.

In Part 1 we talked about how important it is to let our beloved loved ones experience the natural consequences of their choices. We noted that this is fundamental to their growth as a developing human, and to the development of self-esteem that is grounded in personal agency – the sense that we can create outcomes in our own life. We also highlighted that this learning needs to be experiential – it is not something that can be transmitted through words spoken by a loving parent....

What a lovely article about how to be attuned to your child.

All children and teens want to do the right thing, but the ‘right’ thing won’t always look as it should because they also need to try new things, discover their edges, experiment with their independence, and feel connected with their peers. Sometimes these needs will clash with what’s right....

We are less than 3 weeks away from our first Centre for Family Initiatives at Pine River Institute "Rooted in Change" Masterclass! On November 4th, Dr. Brad Reedy of Evoke Therapy Programs will be joining us to present, “Parenting Resilient Children.”

Dr. Reedy will present a formula for increasing resiliency in our children. Using attachment theory, we learn how a parent’s self-awareness and psychological work increase their ability to provide children with a secure base and Self-image. This base is the foundation for the development of a healthy Self. Parents must change the goal from raising “good” and “successful” children to raising health Selves. Dr. Reedy will talk about how parents’ exploration of their own childhood and traumas impacts future generations. Topics will include parental anxiety, definitions of Self for parents and children, and how common myths in parenting need to be reconsidered.
