Ann Cote
November 26, 1933 - March 15, 2026

Ann Cote passed away surrounded by family on March 15, 2026, at 92 years of age.

Ann went to school in Greenway, Rycroft, and Spirit River. Ann was very athletic and loved playing softball so much that she would ride her bike seven miles from her home, just to play a game. Ann would often reminisce about her idyllic childhood with her family of six sisters and three brothers. Her family home would often draw in many neighborhood children. Everyone enjoyed sharing the delicious Ukrainian food, and dancing to the live music her siblings would play. Although they worked hard on the farm, they made time for fun.

Ann received her temporary teaching license after nine months of classes at the University of Alberta. While teaching in Fairview she met Larry Coté and they married on June 30, 1958. Soon after they moved to Whitehorse, where Debra and Wayne were born. In 1963 the family moved to Creston, where Ann continued her teaching career, and Gary was born. Ann spent many of her summers, evenings, and weekends upgrading, eventually receiving a five-year Bachelor of Education. Ann taught at Creston Elementary School, later Adam Robertson Elementary School, for the majority of her 40-year career. She had a passion for teaching and told her students they were “her kids.” Although she had a reputation for being strict, she truly wanted the best for her students. She said she tried to be “firm but fair”.

Ann’s devotion to others also spread to her church family at Grace Christian Fellowship, and she served for many years as a Sunday school teacher. Ann also loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren where everything became a “teachable moment.”

Ann was very social, loved to travel and was always up for an adventure. She enjoyed meeting people and often struck up conversations with complete strangers. Her inquisitiveness and genuine interest in others, made her a fast friend.

Ann is survived by her children Debra (Tom) of Calgary, Wayne (Cheryl) of Canmore, and Gary (Linda) of Creston. She leaves her sisters Mary Radomski of Grande Prairie, Alice (Alf) Harris of Edmonton, Lena (Fred) Skawronski of St. Paul, and brothers-in-law Bill Milkovich of Rycroft and Albert Zatelny of Grande Prairie. She also leaves 8 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.

Ann was predeceased by her her husband Laurent (Larry) Coté, parents Stephen and Mary Konopelka, siblings Alex, Alec, Nick, Bill, Olga Karol, Irene Milkovich, and Jean Zatelny.

A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday April 4, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at the Grace Christian Fellowship.

In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to make a memorial contribution may do so to the Alzheimer Society of BC, Suite 300 – 828 W. 8th Avenue, Vancouver, BC V5Z 1E2.

Wilhelmus (W***y) Adrianus Cornelis Raaijmakers
June 18, 1939 - March 1, 2026

Wilhelmus (W***y) Adrianus Cornelis Raaijmakers passed away peacefully on March 1, 2026, in Fernie, British Columbia, at the age of 86.

He was born on June 18, 1939, in Tilburg, North Brabant, the Netherlands, the seventh of nine children born to Paulus Raaijmakers and Cornelia Johanna Maria Snoeren Raaijmakers.

From those early beginnings in the Netherlands, he went on to build a life filled with family, friendships, and many stories that are still shared today.

On February 23, 1961, he married Hermina (Mimi) Van Eck in Tilburg. In 1962, they immigrated to Canada with their eldest daughter, Lia, and settled in Creston, British Columbia in 1963, where Dad began work in the sawmill. There they welcomed their second daughter, Francie. After several years, the family moved to Calgary, Alberta, where their third daughter, Yvonne, was born. During this time, he worked as a bricklayer before becoming a journeyman baker, completing his apprenticeship with Safeway.

By the early 1970s, baking had become his true calling. In 1973, Mom and Dad returned to Creston and purchased the Creston Valley Bakery. In 1978, they moved back to Calgary, where Dad continued his baking career and eventually became a bakery manager with Safeway. Although they spent many years in Calgary, Dad’s love for the Creston Valley never faded. In 1989, Mom and Dad retired back to Creston, where he remained deeply connected to the community.

Dad proudly served in the Dutch military before immigrating to Canada and later became a dedicated member of the Royal Canadian Legion. In 2023, he was presented with a medal recognizing 50 years of membership, an honour he was very proud to receive. Dad loved spending time at the Legion. He rarely missed the dances, often taking Mom out onto the floor, and he especially enjoyed the meat draws — something we knew would be a highlight whenever we were there visiting. And of course, no trip to the Legion was complete without purchasing a few pull-tabs.

In his younger years, Dad enjoyed hunting with his brother-in-law, Connie Brunham, but fishing was truly his passion. He spent many happy days at Cummings Resort on Kootenay Lake. Summers there created countless family memories, and for a time Dad helped with maintenance and repairs around the resort. The lake community at Cummings became an important part of their lives.

Dad enjoyed cribbage, darts, billiards, and spending time with friends. He was also quite skilled at clock and watch repairs, and many people in Creston came to him for help fixing treasured timepieces. Garage sales were another favorite pastime — Dad would stop at every one he saw, even if he had somewhere else to be. The treasures he and Mom found were often remarkable.

Dad loved giving watches as gifts. One of his granddaughters still has a collection of more than a dozen watches from her Opa. Whenever he gave one away, he would say with a smile, “Don’t say I never gave you anything.”

He was always ready to lend a hand and was known for his sense of humor and his ability to make people laugh. We, his three daughters, remember how he would always try to lift our spirits with his one-liners and optimistic sayings. One that stayed with us was his reminder that there were always “Better days to come.”

Dad also had many dear friends in Creston over the years. Tim, you meant a great deal to him, and we want you to know how much we appreciate the friendship you shared with our dad.

Dad was predeceased by our mom in 2015, and by seven of his siblings. He is survived by his daughters, Lia Mason (Craig), Francie Hawthorne (Doug), and Yvonne Raaymakers (Mark); his seven grandchildren, Jeffrey Mason, Eric Hawthorne, Nicole Mason Wanvig, Kyle Flemmer, Emily Hawthorne Plotnikoff, Mandy Flemmer Alzner, and Liam Small; eleven great-grandchildren, with one more on the way; and his youngest brother, Adrianus (Ad) Albertus Paulus Raaijmakers of Medicine Hat, Alberta. Dad is also remembered by many nieces, nephews, and other family members in both the Netherlands and Canada who have fond memories of his warm and welcoming nature.

The last three years of Dad’s life were spent at Rocky Mountain Village in Fernie, where he found a sense of home. The wonderful staff and his housemates became part of his new community. Our family is deeply grateful to the staff and friends who cared for him and ensured he was surrounded by kindness and love.

In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of life will be held by the family at a later date. Dad will be laid to rest at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Creston, where he will join our mom.

After the challenges of recent years, we take comfort in imagining him now at peace — reunited with Mom, and with his memories once again his own.

‘Rubber Ducky, this is Wooden Shoe. Put the coffee on, I’m coming home.’

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Royal Canadian Legion – Creston Valley Branch #29, PO Box 135, Creston, BC, V0B 1G0, or the Brain Canada Foundation in support of dementia research, Suite 1600 - 1200 McGill College Avenue, Montreal, QC, H3B 4G7.

Juanping "Angie" Shi
October 4, 1969 - February 14, 2026

Juanping “Angie” Shi passed away on February 14, 2026, at the age of 56. She was born in Yuyao, China, on October 4, 1969, and carried with her a deep love for family, resilience, and kindness throughout her life.

In 2001, Angie immigrated to Canada with her husband and young son, first settling in Vancouver, British Columbia. With only a few suitcases and tremendous courage, she and her husband began building a new life from the ground up. Their journey took them to Fredericton, New Brunswick in 2003, to Quesnel, British Columbia in 2005, and finally to Cranbrook, British Columbia in 2012, where they established their home.

Through perseverance, sacrifice, and unwavering determination, Angie and her husband overcame the many challenges of starting over in a new country. From humble beginnings they worked tirelessly to create stability and opportunity for their family. Her quiet strength and resilience formed the foundation of the life they built in Canada.

Angie was hardworking and adaptable, contributing meaningfully wherever life brought her. In China, she worked in Human Resources. After immigrating to Canada, she worked in payroll in New Brunswick, later at a casino in Quesnel, and as a laboratory technician at Quesnel River Pulp. Most recently, she worked as a laboratory technician at Skookumchuck Pulp Mill. She approached every role with dedication, diligence, and pride.

She was known to be a wonderful cook and caring for others often began in her kitchen. Preparing good food was one of the many ways she expressed love. She was also known for generously sharing that love, often handing out homemade dishes and treats to family, friends, and co-workers. In her spare time, she enjoyed cooking and sharing good food, going for walks and hikes in nature, travelling, and spending meaningful time in conversation. She was always ready to listen, to encourage, and to help friends, family, and anyone in need.

Angie will be remembered for her unwavering positivity and her beautiful, warm smile that could light up any room. She had a natural gift for caring for others and always placed the needs of those she loved before her own. Whether through small daily acts of kindness or quiet sacrifices made out of love, she devoted her life to supporting and nurturing those around her.

Her strength, generosity, and selflessness defined her. She found deep joy in caring for her family and brought comfort and reassurance to everyone she met. Her presence was steady, loving, and deeply grounding.

Her legacy of love, perseverance, and compassion will live on in all who knew her.

Angie was predeceased by her father Zhishan Zhang in 2019.

Angie is lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 31 years, Zhilong Shao and her beloved son Yongchang (David) Shao in Canada. She is survived by her mother Xiao Di Shi, her sister Zhuliu Shi, her brother Guowei Zhang, and her extended family, including nieces, cousins, and relatives in China.

A Memorial Service will be held at McPherson Funeral Service on Sunday March 1, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. with a private family interment to be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, friends wishing to make a memorial contribution in Juanping’s name may do so to the BC Cancer Foundation, 150 686 West Broadway, Vancouver, BC, V5Z 1G1.

Randy Raymond Hindley
July 22, 1963 - February 6, 2026

Randy Raymond Hindley, 62, passed away on February 6, 2026.

Born in Creston to Maurice and Dona Hindley, Randy’s bond with the outdoors began almost as soon as he could walk. His mother still fondly recalls stories of a six-year-old Randy "going missing", only to reappear hours later with a basket of creek fish, having spent the day navigating the trails on his own. That adventurous spirit never faded; whether he was hunting elk, scouting for horns or morels, or finding the perfect Christmas tree, Randy lived a life defined by the seasons and the rugged beauty of the wild.

Randy was a generous man with a big heart and a great sense of humor. He was known for his outgoing personality, always meeting people with a big smile and a hug. A fiercely loyal friend, he would do anything for those he cared about.

Randy is survived by his mother, Dona M. Hindley; his daughters, Kaily A. Hindley and Erin L. Merrill; his sister, Karla Hindley; granddaughters Charleigh Merrill and Zoey Hindley; and many other family members and close friends who will deeply miss him.

James (Jim) Edward Robicheau
June 12, 1948 - January 31, 2026

It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of James (Jim) Edward Robicheau on January 31, 2026, in Creston, BC, at the age of 77 years.

Jim was born in 1948 and lived with his ten siblings in Marshalltown, Nova Scotia. He helped to put food on the table by trapping and fishing. At the age of 15, he took a train west to Alberta with all of his worldly possessions tucked into a garbage bag. He worked hard and earned his ticket as a plumber/gas fitter.

Jim met and married Patricia, the love of his life, in 1969, and adopted and raised her two sons. He retired early from his job as trades superintendent for Alberta Parks. They moved from Canmore to Creston in 2003. Everybody needs a hobby after they retire, and Jim’s hobby was work. You could always find him with a drill in one hand and a wrench in the other. After Patricia’s death in 2013, he met Rosalie, with whom he spent his remaining happy years till he was taken from us too soon.

Jim will be lovingly remembered by his partner Rosalie, sons Ervin (Janna) and Bill, grandchildren James, Kassandra and Maxx, his remaining siblings, as well as his extended family of Rosalie’s three sons and their families.

Grandpa will be sorely missed.
