I Be Jammin

I Be Jammin All of my jams, jellies, marmalades, chutneys and pickles are small batch made. I use as much locally and home grown produce in my recipes as possible.

I have had my products pH tested and approved by Vancouver Island Health Authority. I've been making jams, jellies, chutneys and pickles for the better part of 55 years, starting as a little girl of 7, in the kitchen with my Grandma. One of the most exciting things about my products is that they are prepared by MY hand with love and locally grown fruits, berries and vegetables. I fully support our local farmers! Native to Vancouver Island are the Salal berries and Oregon Grape which I use. I do also grow some produce in my very own garden! Tay berries are extremely tasty and unusual. Fine hand zesting the Marmalade, now there's a feat of endurance! "... made with real ingredients, no artificial stuff or fillers." My small batch productions consist of some of my Granma's, Mom's and my traditional recipes as well as my signature flare for combining different fruits, berries and vegetables. These combinations come from my playful side to incorporate new flavours. I challenge my customers to tantalize their taste buds! All my products have been PH tested at MB Labs in Sidney Vancouver Island http://www.mblabs.com/
I have been selling my homemade products for 20 years, 10 of those in the Cowichan Valley and entering the Cowichan Exhibition over the last 5 years has won me numerous first prize ribbons. Selling at the Duncan and surrounding markets has given me exposure to people from many countries. I continue to fill online orders from as far away as Rome, Chad Africa, Bangladesh, Kuwait, Singapore, US and across Canada, too many to list! Special Orders are obtained by request and have included such as:
• Wedding Gifts for guest to take after the reception. A home-made jar of "I Be Jammin" preserves includes the bride and grooms name and wedding date on the label.
• The Integral Ecology Group http://www.integralecologygroup.com/ workshop completion gift of a small jar of "I Be Jammin" preserves.

Good morning everyone...well it's the first full moon of the year. Are any of you affected by full moons? I have always been and it seems that Isabel the cat is too. Makes for an interesting day.
I've been working on my inventory and it's almost complete for the man that does my taxes. Sometimes I procrastinate and later pay for it.
This week I'll be getting a pallet of jars...I'm down to 10 boxes and that won't take long to fill. I've alreay started cooking for the new season...slowly.
It's nice not to be rushing about. 🙂 I have so many books to read!
If you would like anything please give me a call. Take care and stay warm.

Happy New Year everyone...may this year be filled with love, joy and especially hope for all of us. Take good care.

Good afternoon everyone...I just read over my last post and I thought, "Holy mackerel"! I sounded just a tad bit manic! Well that can happen around here sometimes. 🙂
Today will be a calmer post. I'll be home all weekend if anyone would like to drop in and pick up last minute items. I do have lots to choose from in the jam room. I've pretty much done all my errands...that's such a nice feeling.
So...if you would like anything just come on by...I'm an early riser.
Take good care.

Good afternoon everyone...Well this was what my plan was after doing the Christmas show but it's not going to happen just yet it seems. I still have 8 jars of asparagus left out of the 20 we did. They are the 500ml size for $13. Going once...going twice...🙂I also made some Lemon Ginger Marmalade and Ginger Plum Jam...haven't had those on my table for a while. The 500ml size Mango Chutney got made yesterday so those are back in stock too. I still have to make the Cranberry Orange Chutney...totally out of that.
My friend is bringing me 75 lbs of pitted Bing cherries today 🙂
I'm down to 10 cases of jars at the moment and was hoping not to order another pallet of jars until January. I like a small inventory at the end of the year. If you have any of my 250ml jars that you want to get rid of please call me and I'll come and get them.
I have lots of folks coming to the house for their orders so if you would like anything please give me a call. Take good care.
**Update** All the asparagus are sold.

Good afternoon everyone...oh, it's so nice to not have to be running off somewhere for a change. Firstly I'd like to thank all the folks that came out to Deck the Hall Christmas show last weekend. That was so much fun meeting up with all the people I haven't seen for a year.
I'm still cooking and am working on Lemon Ginger Marmalade today which I've been out of for weeks. Susan with her strong fingers zested the lemons...very grateful for that. On Tuesday Kathy and I made 20 jars of Asaparagus...well she has the eye for cutting quickly doesn't she?🙂 I have a few jars left.
I hope this finds you all well. If you need anything please give me a call. Take good care.

Hello everyone...This is a picture of my setup when I did the Nanaimo Professional Craft Fair a few years ago...I can't believe I carried all that in by myself!
Today I set up at Deck the Hall at the Cowichan Exhibition with Kathy's help and it's miniature in comparison. But it still has 55 flavors to choose from...the table looks lovely too. 🙂
We open tomorrow at noon and go until 6, Saturday is 10 until 4 and Sunday 10 until 3. Hope to see you there.

Hello everyone...it feels like it's the middle of the night yet it's only 10 to 6! I'm a pretty happy woman today...my friend brought me 20lbs of Haskaps from Prince George so I'll have Haskap Jam for the Christmas show next week. It is just so delicious! I'm very glad that my Cranberry Hot Pepper Jelly turned out just the way I like it. Peppers can be fickle, meaning that sometimes they have very little heat to them...but I was the mad scientist in the kitchen and I made it happen! I think you'll like it... where as before it was just a little too mild. So I've been packing boxes, cooking, ironing my table clothes and checking off my list as I go. I love doing Deck the Hall.
But now it's dinner time then to bed with a good book. Take good care.

Good morning everyone...The early bird gets the worm...or so I've been told. Wide awake at 4am to start my day. Now that there's no market I have to get ready for Deck the Hall at the Cowichan Exhibition Grounds on Nov 28, 29 and 30th. I love doing that show!
I aquired enough Gooseberries this year to make 19 jars...12 have gone to a customer so there are a few left if anyone is interested. Such a lovely old fashioned jam.
I've been out of asparagus for weeks now. I've been trying to track some down but they're all skinny as a pencil and very dry. I'll keep looking.
The Mango Chutney is selling faster than I can make it! So you know what I'll be doing today.
I hope you are all staying well. I'm off to town shortly. Take good care and if you'd like anything please give me a call.

Hello everyone...
I need to start off by thanking Kate and the incredible market staff for making the Cedar Market what it is...it takes a lot of skill to work with 100 plus vendors! Yeh you!!!
Thank you to all of the wonderful customers who come out and support us! So many of you have become like an extended family for me...sharing stories, hugs, laughter and tears. It means the world to me.
And what would I do without Kathy? I have more fun with that woman! She makes the best "Boss" ever and I let her!🙂
And of course I can't forget the wonderful vendors I get to hang out with...thank you for all things.❤
So...let's do it again next year, shall we? It's going to be our 30th anniversary! In the mean time stay healthy...laugh lots.
