PSA:

Not all massage therapists are the same, and this is exactly why Manitoba is pushing for regulation. MTAM is actually finally getting closer to this.

Currently, anyone can call themselves a “massage therapist” in Manitoba, regardless of their training or qualifications. Some practitioners like myself have completed 2,200+ hours of accredited education, are trained in anatomy, pathology, and assessment, continuing education and follow strict professional standards. Others may have little or no formal training at all.

This lack of regulation makes it hard for the public to know who is properly qualified and can safely address health concerns. Regulation will create consistent standards, ensuring that anyone using the title “Massage Therapist” has met rigorous educational and ethical requirements.

Please be smart and educated when picking your therapist and remember; if you’re treatment is not claimable with your benefits/insurance then they are not registered under an association therefore there is no insurance involved if injury happens.
