We’re proud to announce a transformational $1 million matching gift from philanthropist Jim Pattison, launching a community fundraising challenge to build a new, state‑of‑the‑art endoscopy suite at the Delta Hospital Campus of Care.

In recognition of this extraordinary generosity, the new facility will be named the Jim Pattison Endoscopy Unit—bringing faster diagnosis, earlier cancer detection, and lifesaving care closer to home. This modern space will expand capacity, shorten wait times, and support earlier cancer detection for our growing community. And right now, every donation is matched dollar‑for‑dollar, doubling the impact of every gift.

Why the Beedie Long Term Care Centre can’t wait. This week, Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation CEO Lisa Hoglund joined The Mike Smyth Show to talk about the importance of moving forward with the construction on the Beedie Long‑Term Care Centre. While timelines across B.C. are under review, early site work is already underway and the need to replace Mountain View Manor remains urgent for our community.

March is Colorectal Cancer Awareness Month. Colorectal cancer remains one of the leading causes of cancer-related death in Canada. To improve early detection, AI-supported colonoscopy is now available at 12 Fraser Health sites, including Delta Hospital. The GI Genius Polyp Detection System at Delta Hospital Campus of Care was funded by DHCH Foundation with support from Tsawwassen Springs 7th Annual Festival of Lights. This technology helps highlight polyps in real time and supports endoscopy teams during procedures.

This Brain Awareness Week, we’re shining a light on the power of VR Goggles, funded by the DHCH Foundation thanks to the generous support of the Delta Hospital Auxiliary Society. Previously, the Foundation has also funded two additional sets of VR goggles through donor support, including the Hawthorne Hikers. Through immersive sights, sounds, and touch, virtual reality opens new worlds for seniors living with dementia. These experiences help activate memory, improve focus, and encourage cognitive stimulation, supporting healthier brain function while fostering connection and emotional well‑being.

“I arrived at Delta Hospital’s Emergency Department with excruciating pain. Every interaction I had was very pleasant and empathetic. Thanks to my care team, I was pain free and sent home with a referral, prescriptions and the results of my CT scan. It was my best hospital experience in my 60 years. Thanks.”

Last week, the Delta Hospital Auxiliary Society (DHAS) visited the Operating Room at Delta Hospital for a behind-the-scenes look at the new Ophthalmic Surgical Microscope System they helped fund through their remarkable $800,000 commitment in 2025.

This state-of-the-art surgical microscope is used primarily for cataract procedures and provides Delta Hospital’s ophthalmologists with highly precise visualization during surgery. Its advanced digital features allow surgical alignment without touching the eye, while reduced light intensity improves patient comfort and surgical efficiency.

With more than 8,000 day surgeries performed at Delta Hospital each year, including approximately 1,400 cataract and other eye procedures, this $390,000 investment will have a meaningful impact on patient care in our community.

We are incredibly grateful to DHAS for their ongoing generosity and dedication to ensuring exceptional care, close to home.
