Garden Loft is a prefabricated living unit with advanced adaptive physical and digital support systems that enable someone with differing abilities, including aging parents, to live independently in a family member's backyard. A Garden Loft is a high quality living space that enables your loved one to have as much independence as they can safely manage. Because the living unit is located adjacent to your home it keeps your loved one engaged in family life and helps avoid the loneliness and impersonality of a care facility or group home. It’s also more convenient because you don’t have to travel to some other part of the city to visit. As a stand-alone unit, a Garden Loft provides enough separation so everyone has the privacy they want while maintaining the attention and support they need. A Garden Loft is an innovative age-in-place solution that, for many, is an effective alternative to living in a retirement home or a long term care facility. As architects, designers, builders, and university researchers, we are committed to redesigning the way people age at home. We combine cutting edge age-in-place research with over 25 years of experience designing and building custom homes in Calgary.

The GL 480 unit shown here has adjustable height kitchen and bathroom counters, integrated handrails that double as towel bars, sliding glass doors that separate the living room from the bedroom and fall-safe flooring throughout including the bathroom.
