If you have received a breast cancer diagnosis and are looking for a new challenge while making some awesome friends along the way, why not come and check us (KAB) out?

Practices are held year round; during the off-season the focus alternates between building our strength and conditioning in our gym workouts and improving our technique through poolside paddle practice.
As soon as the water in the Bay is warm enough, we get out into the boats. Maintaining a good cardiovascular level is important, and we practice rain or shine.

The best part, however, is the chance to connect over coffee after practice!

Breast Cancer Awareness Month

In 2022 an estimated 28,600 Canadian women will be diagnosed with BC. On average that’s 78 women a day. Men can also get BC but it’s much more rare.

There are many different types of BC and each one is treated differently .

Research and earlier detection has made BC survival very high. Treatments can take up to a year or more depending on the strategies used.

Women with metastatic BC are living with cancer longer than ever before.

For many women the physical, social, and emotional effects of BC and it’s treatments extend well beyond their last medical treatment. Or are life long with metastatic BC.

Resources and support are out there to help manage and navigate the toll BC takes on women and their loved ones .

BRA ( breast reconstruction awareness ) events occur in multiple locations ( again this year virtually ) during the month of October . I always like to share these valuable education opportunities with clients who are considering reconstruction options. I’ve attended 2 different ones in the past and they great resources to learn the latest research , ask questions, and learn from both health care professionals and patients.
This is one upcoming session but there are others in different communities.

Up to 20% of of those diagnosed with breast cancer will have the cancer spread beyond the breast to other areas of the body. Women are living longer with advanced cancer but more research is needed. Thus a tricolor ribbon, for metastatic breast cancer, aims to raise awareness for the need to direct funding toward the development of life-extending treatments. In it, green represents the triumph of spring over winter, life over death; teal symbolizes healing and spirituality; and a thin pink-ribbon overlay signifies metastatic cancer that originated in the breast.
Today I am thinking of all the women I know managing ongoing treatments and care, and LIVING with MBC.
There are support programs for individuals living with metastic cancer such Wellspring’s Oasis Programs, including exercise

Awareness can mean many different things.....
>awareness about prevention
>awareness about screening & changes to be mindful of >awareness of what to say or not to say to someone impacted by cancer
>awareness & education of treatment options
>awareness of how we can contribute to research & those diagnosed
>awareness that BC treatments are potentially long and difficult & their impact can be felt long after the last treatment............
