happy to announce that i am back in the swing of things over

feeling heaps of gratitude for all the incredible SRW staff and community members.

i leave the clinic just overjoyed that i get to work with such badass & inspiring patients in this cozy little office that is 100% free from the sound of my toddler who loves to shout "BIRD!", "HOCKEY!" and "GUCK!" (which could mean book, puck, truck, stuck or duck depending on context).

my availability is pretty limited right now as i slowly rouse myself out of stay-at-home-mom mode, but if you're looking for an allied healthcare provider who loves science, discourages dogma and weeps during Hallmark movies, don't be shy, come say hi!

• h e l l o •

so i snuck off to have a baby smack dab in the middle of harvest and that deliciously healthy babe is now almost five months old. not sure how that happened 😳

i had a rather unconventional midwifery assisted birth and the dreamiest postpartum time being absolutely smothered with love, thoughtfulness and care. i have some of the best people in drumheller in my close circle (you know who you are!). i also have incredible family members with engaged aunties/uncles/grandparents, and a group of soup mates in the PNW whose love effortlessly crosses mountain ranges.

in an era where loneliness is rampant, i know just how lucky i am to have connection in abundance.

🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽🙏🏽

connection doesn't need to be complicated - sometimes it's just a smile or an introduction.

so if you see me out and about and want to connect, don't be shy, i want to meet you and i promise i am rather friendly 😀

you can find me:
• hanging with the folks from
• drinking lots of coffee anywhere they serve coffee
• breathing hard at spin classes on Tues/Thurs with Lana from
• sprawled on the floor in the kids section at the library
• racing my older kiddo around town between classes with , playschool, gymnastics, public skate, playdates, and on and on and on...
• checking out the crazy good lineup at (two stages are all ages, whoop whoop!)

if our paths cross, say hi!

❤️looking forward to connecting with you❤️

OH, and while i am out of the office i'm working on some more courses to teach. comment below with a class you'd like me to teach and if it's in my wheelhouse i will try to make it happen!

early in my naturopathic training i attended a lecture at a conference where the speaker emphasized over and over again that "consumers" of naturopathic medicine are:

💸 rich
⬜ white
🎓 well-educated
👩 women

and so began my commitment to making my practice more accessible for the many folks who live their beautiful lives outside of those boxes.

regardless of who you are, a major hurdle to accessing integrative medicine in Alberta is having to pay fees out-of-pocket...
without employer benefits these visits can be simply unaffordable.

so i have two main goals:
👇keep my fees as low as possible
↔️ offer sliding scale options for anyone who would benefit from such

i truly believe that finances should not be a barrier in accessing care. if you have any questions about my fees just send me a DM or give me a ring and we can chat.

*all of my office visit and course fees are listed on my website (link in bio)*

so if you've been thinking about going to a naturopath in the new year, i'm your gal 👩🏻‍🏫

i am keeping my hours quite limited as i balance work as full-time mom with part-time doctoring, so p*ep my booking page to get in while you can!

• v u | v @ •

i don't think i learned/could use the proper words for external ge****ls until my mid-20s. i certainly didn't know what anatomy the vu|v@ encompassed until i was well into post-secondary 🤦

this isn't surprising or unique to my upbringing, but as a parent and a healthcare provider i know that it is essential to combat the harmful idea that certain parts of the body are embarassing or shameful.

our bodies are amazing and we should celebrate every part of them, even the parts we keep protected beneath clothing 🎉

so in light of that, here is a primer on the vu|v@.

it is basically all of the structures between the p***c bone and the a**s, typically found on folks who were born with a uterus.

from front to back this includes:
➡️ the mons p***s (area where p***c hair grows)

➡️ the cl****is & cl****al hood (skin that protects the cl****is)

➡️ two folds of skin called the l***a major and l***a minora, which protect the opening to the v@gina and the urethra (where urine exits the body)

➡️ the fourchette (the little "fork" where the inner folds of skin meet at the bottom)

➡️ the perineum (the space between the above structures and the a**s)

✨TA-DA!✨
You have now been formally introduced to the vu|v@.

i always offer a mirror for folks to use during pelvic floor care sessions so they have the chance to witness their anatomy and fully understand their assesment & treatment. this is something you can request for any pelvic exam if you're curious about what's going on "down there". PAP exams are a great time to bust a mirror out!

back to school time!

many people believe their kids' "s*x-ed" lessons begin once it is introduced in the school curriculum. they'd be partially correct, because that is when most kids' formal introduction to s*xuality begins.

but guess what?

s*xual development begins at birth.
yep.
at birth.

and there is so much we can do in the early years to foster healthy s*xual development in our kiddos!

from birth - 2 years old it can look like:

• modeling consent and personal boundaries
• naming body parts anatomically
• teaching about privacy
• facilitating loving, trusting relationships
• promoting diversity of gender expression
• celebrating different bodies and their functions
• and more!

if you want resources on how to encourage healthy s*xual development in an age appropriate way, AHS has you covered.

www.teachings*xualhealth.ca

swipe right to see the section on Birth - 2 Years and the Sexuality Wheel (which helps to illustrate that s*xuality is NOT just about s*x/s*xual orientation/gender. it encompasses so much more!)

if this is an area you're looking for more support with, check out these awesome IG pages as well:

*xpositive_familiesbodytalks

i don't know about you, but my upbringing didn't offer much support in terms of developing my s*xuality, and my 20s and 30s have been spent figuring out a bunch of pieces that were never put in place in my childhood.

i'm so thankful for these resources, both for my own learning around s*xuality and for the tools available to me as a healthcare professional AND someone in charge of parenting and fostering healthy s*xuality in my little one.

if you have any favourite resources, please share in the comments!

• p e l v i c f l o o r •

this is a model of a pelvis for someone who was born with a uterus.

there are thirteen different muscles that weave together to form the base of the pelvic bowl. they are arranged in three layers and are involved in SO MANY THINGS.

*p*e.
*poo.
*s*x.
*breath.
*posture.
*movement.
*(and more!)

so take a second to send some love and attention down to your pelvic floor because no matter what you've been up to, it has been hard at work!

*and if you have difficulties with anything on this list, it might be time to see someone for pelvic floor care. many issues (pain, incontinence, hemorrhoids, etc.) improve with proper diagnosis and treatment.

why live with discomfort if you don't have to?

• r e s e a r c h •

this isn't the first time Tylenol use in pregnancy has been linked to autism and ADHD, but it certainly is the most robust publication looking at the relationship to-date.

just shy of 74,000 kids were studied. researchers looked at prenatal and postnatal Tylenol exposure with relation to autism and ADHD diagnoses.

they found that ANY exposure to Tylenol in pregnancy increased the odds of the child developing autism or ADHD by 19% and 21%. (postnatal exposure did not have an effect)

does this mean that if you take Tylenol in pregnancy you are going to cause autism or ADHD in your developing child?
NOPE!

does this mean your child with autism or ADHD developed these conditions because of your Tylenol use during pregnancy?
NOPE!

all it means is that there is a relationship between Tylenol use in pregnancy and the development of these two neurologic conditions, and i think that is extremely important information for pregnant people to have when they are making decisions about pain management.

now i'm dying to know...
anyone else geek out on epidemiology as a way of hiding from the heat?
🤣
