How does trauma have an ongoing effect on one's ability to emotionally regulate?
When someone experiences trauma, their brain and nervous system can become dysregulated, disrupting their ability to manage emotions effectively. Trauma can alter the brain's structure and functioning, leading to changes in the areas responsible for emotional processing and regulation. As a result, the individual may experience ongoing heightened emotional responses, increased sensitivity to emotional triggers, and difficulties in returning to a baseline state of calmness.
There are various therapeutic approaches, such as Somatic Experiencing, that can help to re-regulate the nervous system and bring our bodies back to a state of health and wellness. We are grateful to offer these services at Dakova Health.
