Sending out a gentle reminder on this rainy day that making changes takes time and the journey has many ups and downs.

If you are in a healing or therapeutic journey and your are feeling stuck or disappointed with your progress I encourage you to look back to where you started. I am positive there has been change. It may just look different than what you expected.

At BPS that is exactly what we do. We believe in supporting the whole family. So often as parents we expect our children to act, do, believe, feel a certain way at a certain time. However, development and individuality just doesn't work that way. Meeting children where they are at and providing support that matches who they are is a huge key to successful family outcomes.

With knowledge comes compasssion. It can be hard to understand why our children can do some things but not others. Dr Russell Barkley helps parents with children with ADHD understand how the brain works and what to expect at what age. Once I realized this, it made some behaviours make so much more sense. I hope it can help you too 🥰

If you're a parent then you already know this skill, you may just not have named it. Body doubling is such an effective strategy to use for our children with ADHD who need support to get things done, start a task, finish a task, stay on task. It is also helpful for us adults.

Doesn't it just feel great to have someone around when you have to do that thing you haven't been wanting to do. The silent accountability is amazing! Then magically the tasks or step is done and it feels so GOOD!

If you haven't tried this, I suggest giving it a try.

When working with children I often feel like a teacher. One of the most important things we talk about is friendship and relationships and how to know what characteristics to look for. This is a skill that comes up all throughout your life. Loyalty and trust are two values that repetitively come up. There isn't a better feeling then knowing the people have your back even when you aren't there or when youre not so nice to yourself ♥️
