February is Heart Health Month ❤️
High blood pressure is one of the most common long-term health concerns in our community and is a key focus in our Community Health and Wellness Plan. That’s why this month we’re sharing simple ways to take care of our hearts and celebrating the connections that help keep us well, starting with our Sul-hween (Elders).
On Friday, February 6, 2026, first-year nursing students from Vancouver Island University spent time with our Sul-hween. They shared heart health information, checked blood pressure, and talked about simple ways to keep hearts healthy.
Taking care of our hearts doesn’t have to be complicated. Small choices like eating healthy foods, staying active, getting enough sleep, quitting smoking, and checking blood pressure and cholesterol can help lower the risk of heart disease.
We raise our hands to the students and organizers for connecting with our Sul-hween for these important conversations about heart health. Huy tseep q’u.
If you missed the students on Friday, you can connect with them again at our Elders Wellness Day event on February 27, 2026, from 10:00am-3:00pm.
