We are excited to be working with April Lacheur Art to create a truly unique space at Cowichan's new hospital where we can honour and recognize the hundreds of donors and volunteers who have made such a difference to healthcare in the Cowichan Valley. It's a big project, in line with the scale of the new hospital, and we can't wait to reveal it all next year when the hospital opens.
Our sincere thanks to April for her enthusiasm and imagination, and to the Island Health art@CDH team for their incredible support of this special piece of commemorative art.
🎉 EXCITING NEWS!
I am truly honoured to share that I have been selected to create a mural image for the NEW Quw'utsun Valley Hospital / Quw'utsun Hulitun-ew't-hw. The mural is for the Cowichan District Hospital Foundation to acknowledge and thank their incredible donors and will be located in the front entrance of the hospital on level zero of the community hall.
I can’t begin to express how meaningful this opportunity is to me. Coming from a nursing background in healthcare, I’ve spent many years working in sterile, institutional environments.
To now have the chance to offer calm, hope, and a moment of reprieve to patients, families, and healthcare workers through my artwork within a hospital setting feels incredibly special. It’s truly a privilege to contribute in this way.
The new Quw'utsun Valley Hospital / Quw'utsun Hulitun-ew't-hw is going to be a unique and beautiful space in the Cowichan Valley. So much thoughtful planning has gone into creating an environment that supports healing, connection, and care for everyone who walks through its doors.
My mural will be an approximately 9ft tall x 50ft wide forest scene. I will created it at 1/3 size in my studio and it will be reproduced, enlarged and adhered to the wall for longevity and durability. I look forward to sharing my process and updates as the project unfolds.
For now, pinch me! I can’t believe I get to enjoy such an honour!
