2026 planting planning is in full swing 🌱 🍅 🥕 🌸 📆

We follow a 🌎 biodynamic ✨ planting calendar and we're pleasantly surprised to see they've added a column for bees! 🐝

Though the vegetable portraits are lovely, was disappointed to see they've lost the anthroposophical artwork 😔 🎨 🖌️

Winter ❄️ Wood 🪵 Day

We asked our teens if they'd be willing to swap homeschool work for wood stacking today, as a load arrived and was dumped in the middle of our driveway. . . they chose wood. . . but only got halfway before switching back to pencils and workbooks📚 📖 📕 🤣🤣🤣

In summer we stock up on wood to heat our home for the winter, but we seem to be going through this year's ration faster than usual so we ordered more. . . in the middle of winter, fun fun fun 🤩

Super grateful to our neighbour Farmer Bill for his firewood service!

Fire Sunset 🌅 🔥
This image really captures the intense blast of warmth that melted almost 1 and 1/2 feet of snow from the at the end of the week. So incredible to see the amount of melt water and this stunning sunset as the clouds raced across the sky!
From a food forest planning perspective, almost every pool of melt water is where we'll place future hugelkultur beds to soak up some of this resource.

Dealing with the Dinos 🦕 🦖

Mild weather + coop closed = disgruntled rooster 🐓

We were very late opening the chickens' door to let them out into the run this morning. . In subzero temperatures they do not mind but today's forecast is well above freezing and we were an hour and half after sunrise. . When our eldest teen went out to get eggs the rooster charged him and the door got left open, this video is what momma Jess encountered 10 minutes later

Although the chickens have an automatic door opener, it runs through its batteries pretty quick and with their indoor winter habits, we haven't bothered to replace the batteries because we are usually out there early enough to open it for them manually

Half a foot of snow on the driveway, we cleared it after dark when Ryan was done working his day job, hoping today's weather brings a bit of melt. . . anything but ice please 🙏
