Rolled your ankle? Don’t forget frictions of the ATFL!
Deep transverse friction can be a helpful tool during rehab for an ATFL ankle sprain.
Why it matters:
• Helps stimulate collagen remodelling during healing ✅
• Encourages proper fiber alignment in the ligament ✅
• Improves local circulation to the injured tissue ✅
• Can reduce adhesions and stiffness around the ligament ✅
The goal is to support the ligament as it heals so it regains strength and function.
Always combine this with progressive strengthening, proprioception, and return-to-sport loading for the best outcomes!
