Why I Charge $35/Hour — A Transparent Breakdown
I’d like to gently address a comment I hear from time to time:
“That seems expensive for cleaning if you don’t have formal certification.”
I understand where that thought comes from, so here’s some transparency around what that $35/hour actually covers, and why it’s fair.
I am a business, not just a person with a mop.
When you hire me, you’re not paying “take-home pay.” You’re paying for a professional service that comes with real costs and responsibility.
Here’s where that $35/hour goes:
Supplies & Equipment
Quality cleaners, tools, vacuum maintenance, microfiber replacement, etc.
Transportation Costs
Fuel, vehicle maintenance, insurance, and wear and tear from driving job to job.
Business Expenses
• Insurance & liability coverage
• Licensing & registration
• Booking, communication, and admin time (unpaid hours clients don’t see)
• Taxes (self-employed taxes are significantly higher)
Experience & Reliability
While I may not hold a formal “certificate,” I bring:
• Hands-on experience
• Efficiency (jobs done properly, not rushed or sloppy)
• Trustworthiness in your home
• Consistency you don’t get from bargain cleaners
Local, Independent, Human
Supporting my business means supporting a local mom working to provide stability and quality care for her family. Not cutting corners or exploiting underpaid labor.
Perspective Matters
Tradespeople, nurses, and other professionals aren’t paid just for tools or certificates — they’re paid for responsibility, reliability, physical labor, and skill. Cleaning is no different.
✨ $35/hour is not “absurd.” It’s sustainable, fair, and standard for insured, independent residential cleaning.
I’m always happy to answer respectful questions — but I’ll never apologise for charging what it takes to do good work and stay in business.
Thank you to my amazing clients who value quality and transparency. 💙
