WHY PLAY THERAPY? 🎨🧸💛

Play is the natural language of children. 🗣️🌈 While adults use words to process their emotions, children use play. Through play, they tell their stories, express big feelings, make sense of their experiences, and explore the world around them—often without needing to say a word.

📊 Research consistently shows that play therapy can improve children’s self-esteem, emotional regulation, resilience, and ability to build positive relationships. It provides a developmentally appropriate and emotionally safe way for children to express what’s inside, even when they don’t have the language to explain it.

Communication, Understanding and Healing 📖 💬 👧 👦

Bibliotherapy 📚 serves as an effective tool for children coping with the death of a loved one 🖤 by facilitating communication 🗣️ and promoting healing ❤️🩹. Books on the death of a loved one (from a grandparent to a pet) present this emotional topic in an age-appropriate and sensitive manner, making it easier for children to share their own feelings 🗨️ and ask questions ❓ they might otherwise find too challenging to express. This shared reading experience 📖 can open up lines of communication between children and their caregivers or child psychologists 👨👩👧👦, enabling a supportive dialogue about death and loss.

After The Funeral by Jane Loretta Winsch – After The Funeral provides children with an important message-- that everyone processes grief and loss in their own unique way. This book encourages young readers to lean-into whatever gives them comfort following the death of a loved one. The authors explain to children that just as they are wrestling with their own feelings and emotions of grief and loss, so too are the adults—who similarly process grief in their own unique ways. The simple format of this book encourages discussion between the child and reader. After The Funeral includes content provided from a Christian perspective, including suggestions to pray for lost loved ones as a way of holding memories in their heart.

🧒🌟 Understanding Children's Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD):

Children's Generalized Anxiety Disorder (GAD) 🧒 😰 is characterized by excessive worry 😟 and anxiety 😰 about a wide range of everyday events and situations. GAD causes children to feel anxious and apprehensive, often without a specific reason. This ongoing worry can interfere with their daily activities, schoolwork, and relationships.

💔 Impact on Daily Life: Consider your child hesitating to participate in dance or join a soccer team 🏅, opting out of playdates 🎨, or unable to speak to unknown adults 🏫. These behaviors limit their opportunities for friendships and academic growth. Over time, these challenges can erode their self-esteem and confidence.

🕯️👨👩👧 No screens, all smiles! When devices go into another room, families get something screens can’t provide: eye contact, shared stories, and the joy of simply being together. Make it a weekly tradition! 🌟

👧💔🧠🗣️📚🖍️💬 Kids Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) for Family Changes – Divorce

Cognitive Behaviour Therapy emphasizes the development of practical problem-solving 🔍 and coping skills, enabling children to effectively manage difficult situations and emotions. Through guided role-play 🎭 and “what-if” exercises, children practice navigating real-life challenges with confidence 💪 and learn to apply these skills independently. This empowering approach enhances their ability to cope with life’s ups and downs, helping them feel more in control of their emotions and reactions.

🧘‍♀️ Grounding Reminders

When the noise is loud and your nerves are frayed, grounding yourself isn’t just helpful—it’s powerful. 🔊➡️🌿

It’s okay to feel overwhelmed. It’s okay to not have all the answers. 🫠 But in those hard moments, returning to your breath, to your body, and to the present moment can help you move from reaction to intention. 🧘‍♂️🫁

These grounding reminders are your anchor. ⚓ Think of them as a deep breath on paper. A way to come back to yourself before moving forward. 💨❤️

Let Them Be Messy 🌟 🧑‍🎨 🧹 💫

Letting your kids make a mess can be a tough decision, but the benefits far outweigh the cleanup!

🌟 Messy art helps kids with problem-solving, fine motor skills, and emotional expression. 💡

When it’s time to tidy up, turn the task into a learning moment: teach your child to organize by categories (paints here, brushes there) and make it a collaborative effort. This helps them feel a sense of accomplishment and teaches them life skills. 💖🧼

Regulate Yourself First

🌪 Your child’s meltdown doesn’t mean you’re doing something wrong—it means they’re struggling to manage something big.

And in that moment, they need your nervous system more than your instructions.

✨ To co-regulate:
✔️ Take a breath (yes, you first!)
✔️ Get low—eye level helps
✔️ Use a soft voice
✔️ Stay close without crowding

When you regulate yourself first, you model what calm looks and feels like. Your presence becomes the tool.

🧡 Co-regulation begins with your own regulation.
