Winter Vehicle Safety Starts Before You Hit the Road!
As temperatures drop, road conditions can change fast — snow, ice, and low visibility make winter driving one of the most dangerous times of the year in Alberta. A little preparation goes a long way to keep you, your passengers, and others on the road safe.
Before You Go:
Check your tires: Make sure you have proper winter tires with good tread.
Top up fluids: Especially windshield washer fluid rated for -40°C or colder.
Inspect your battery: Cold weather weakens it — don’t wait until it’s too late!
Pack an emergency kit: Include a blanket, shovel, booster cables, flashlight, snacks, and water.
Clear ALL windows and mirrors: Visibility is key to safety.
While Driving:
Slow down and increase following distance — icy roads mean longer stopping times.
Avoid sudden movements: Gentle acceleration and braking reduce the risk of skidding.
Stay alert for black ice and changing road conditions.
Keep your lights on, even during the day, to increase visibility.
Being prepared isn’t just about keeping your vehicle running — it’s about preventing emergencies before they happen.
At Evolution First Aid and CPR Training Inc., we believe safety begins long before an accident does.
Stay safe. Stay warm. Stay prepared.
