π Eating Disorder Awareness Week: February 1-7, 2026 π
Eating disorders are not about food alone. They are complex mental health concerns that often connect to trauma, anxiety, perfectionism, control, and our relationship with ourselves and others.
Eating Disorder Awareness Week is a national movement to raise awareness, education, and understanding of eating disorders and to challenge stigma and the barriers that prevent access to care. Eating disorders affect people of all genders, sexual orientations, ages, abilities, races, ethnic backgrounds, and body sizes, yet misconceptions still stand in the way of support and recovery.
This year's theme, "Health Doesn't Have a Look," invites us to challenge the harmful belief that thinness equals health. Messages rooted in diet culture and weight stigma can negatively shape how we view our bodies, food, and movement.
You do not need to look a certain way to be struggling. You do not need to be "sick enough" to deserve support. And you are not alone.
If you or someone you know is looking for treatment, you can find therapists who specialize in Eating Disorders at the Alberta Wellness Centre for Eating Disorders (IG) albertawellnessed.com(FB).
You can also check out a free workshop put on by the Eating Disorder Support Network of Alberta (EDSNA) about Body Image on Feb 5th. More info can be found at https://edsna.ca/edaw2026-body-image-workshop/
If this message resonates with you or someone you care about, support is available. Taking even a gentle step toward help can make a meaningful difference. π
