🇨🇦 Honouring Our Heroes — Lest We Forget 🇨🇦

Today, on Remembrance Day, we pause to honour the courage, sacrifice, and service of the men and women who have served — and continue to serve — our country.

From all of us at Nurses on Demand, we stand in gratitude for those who gave everything so we could live in peace and freedom. May we always remember their bravery, their stories, and the legacy they left behind.

🕊️ At the going down of the sun, and in the morning, we will remember them.

🌿 Client Story Time: Supporting Recovery at Home

When Lora (name changed for confidentiality) came home from the hospital after a fall that left her with a broken leg, everyone felt relieved she was medically stable. But once she returned to her own home — living alone — the reality of recovery began to set in.

Simple things like standing up, preparing a meal, or keeping up with laundry became overwhelming. Her family began noticing subtle but worrying changes: she wasn’t eating well, avoided getting up, and had lost her usual spark. Her healing slowed, and she had stopped doing her physio exercises altogether.

That’s when her family reached out to Nurses on Demand for a consultation. When we visited Lora, she shared that she felt anxious about moving for fear of falling again, and that she had lost interest in cooking and socializing. She admitted she just felt low.

Together, we built a care plan — gentle, practical, and encouraging. One of our nurses began visiting three times a week for three hours each visit. During that time, we helped with:

💧 Full showers and hygiene care
🍲 Healthy meal prep
🧺 Light cleaning and laundry
🩹 Incision and wound monitoring
💪 Gentle support with her prescribed physio exercises

Just as important, these visits gave Lora something to look forward to — companionship and confidence. Over the next few months, her family noticed a huge shift in her overall well-being. Her strength returned, her smile came back, and so did her motivation.

Although her leg is now healed, Lora decided to keep her nurse coming. She told us she realized how much the consistent support meant for her overall wellness.

This is just one of many stories showing how 1:1 nursing care at home can change lives — not only by meeting physical needs, but by nurturing emotional healing too.

November is Fall Prevention Month

At Nurses on Demand, we know that one simple fall can change everything — especially for our seniors and clients with mobility challenges. Preventing falls isn’t just about safety; it’s about preserving independence, dignity, and confidence.

Our nurses and health care aides are trained to recognize early warning signs and reduce risks in the home and community through:
✅ Individualized fall-risk assessments
✅ Home environment checks (lighting, flooring, tripping hazards)
✅ Strength and balance support plans
✅ Medication reviews and mobility aid education
✅ 1:1 assistance with transfers and daily routines

Falls are the leading cause of injury among older adults in Canada, but they are also largely preventable with proactive care.

If you or a loved one could benefit from extra support at home, reach out to our team today — because prevention starts with awareness, and safety starts with Nurses on Demand.

Empowering Care at Home: The Value of One-to-One Nursing Support

When care happens in the comfort of home, supported by dedicated one-to-one nursing, everyone benefits. The client receives personalized, focused attention. Families gain peace of mind. And the healthcare system becomes more sustainable.

At Nurses on Demand, we believe home care with 1:1 nursing isn’t just convenient — it’s an investment in dignity, safety, and well-being.

Why home care matters in Canada:

• Over 946,000 Canadians accessed formal home care services in 2021 — that’s about 3.2% of the population.
• Among Canadians aged 65+, 8.4% reported using home care, compared to 1.1% of younger adults.
• Among those 85 and older, about 6.5% reported unmet home-care needs, showing the growing gap in available support.
• The Canadian home-healthcare sector is projected to grow from $14.5 billion in 2024 to $27.4 billion by 2030, showing just how vital in-home services have become.

The benefits of 1:1 nursing support:

• Personalized attention: Care tailored entirely to the client’s needs — from medication management to complex care.
• Better outcomes: Home care helps people stay at home longer and reduces unnecessary hospital visits.
• Support for families: 1:1 nursing relieves the pressure on family caregivers and helps prevent burnout.
• Comfort and dignity: Receiving care at home preserves independence and a sense of normalcy.
• Cost-effective: Home-based nursing is often more affordable than long-term facility care, while providing higher satisfaction and continuity.

Why choose Nurses on Demand:

We offer licensed, compassionate nurses dedicated to one-client-at-a-time care. Our team provides professional medical support while focusing on comfort, safety, and family collaboration. From post-surgery recovery to chronic-care management and hospital bedside assistance, we bring hospital-quality care into your home.

Compassionate 1:1 Nursing Care – Because Every Moment Matters

At Nurses on Demand, we believe quality care starts with connection. Our team of Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, and Health Care Aides provide personalized, one-on-one support in homes, hospitals, long-term care settings, and even special events.

Examples of our 1:1 services include:

Hospital bedside companionship: When your loved one is admitted, our nurses stay by their side — assisting with toileting, walking, repositioning, and emotional comfort while collaborating with hospital staff.

Home-care support: Whether it’s medication management, wound care, post-surgical recovery, or mobility assistance, our nurses bring professional care right to your doorstep.

Senior support & respite care: We give families peace of mind knowing their loved one is cared for with dignity and patience while caregivers rest or attend to other needs.

Event or travel care: From weddings to family gatherings, we ensure your loved one can safely and comfortably take part in life’s most meaningful moments.

Story Time: A Little Extra Care Made All the Difference

All identifying details have been changed for confidentiality — we’ll call him Joe.

Joe was receiving treatment for cancer at a local hospital. His needs were complex, and like many hospital units today, staffing shortages meant that 1:1 attention simply wasn’t possible. His wife could see how much he needed more consistent support — someone who could stay by his side, help him walk, assist with toileting, and offer steady companionship while still working collaboratively with the hospital nurses.

She reached out to Nurses on Demand, hoping for a bit of relief and peace of mind. After speaking with the hospital’s unit manager, we arranged for one of our registered nurses to provide bedside 1:1 support throughout his stay.

It wasn’t about replacing the hospital team — it was about complementing their care and ensuring Joe felt safe, seen, and supported every moment of the day.

When we checked in with his wife, she was in tears — grateful to see her husband comfortable and cared for in such a personal way. Joe himself said he finally felt at ease.

At Nurses on Demand, we strive to provide true 1:1 care — care that ensures our patients never question if they matter, or if we have enough time for them. Every person we serve deserves to feel valued, supported, and heard.

It’s stories like Joe’s that remind us why we do what we do — bridging the gap in care when families need it most.

From Pixar's film "Coco." It's about the Mexican tradition of celebrating El Dia de Los Mu***os - remembering and honoring loved ones who have passed. They so accurately captured the expressions of someone living with dementia. Highly recommended film. 💜
