What My Dog Teaches Me About Presence
Every day, my dog reminds me of something I tend to forget: life is happening right now.
Not later, not when the to‑do list is done, not when everything feels perfectly aligned.
Now.
He doesn’t rush.
He doesn’t overthink.
He doesn’t replay yesterday or pre-live tomorrow.
He just is—fully, unapologetically, joyfully.
Watching him sniff the same tree with fresh curiosity or settle into a sunbeam like it’s the first warm light he’s ever felt… it pulls me back into my body. Into my breath. Into this moment.
His presence teaches me to slow down, soften, and savor the simple things I often overlook.
Maybe that’s the real wisdom: presence isn’t a skill to master—it’s a way of being we can return to, again and again.
