There’s movement in our community right now 📍

And not in a positive way. We are losing our midwives to burnout. We are losing our ability to use birth pools in hospitals. We are losing our ability to birth the way we choose.

1) Midwifery led births keep birthing people home longer and can even deliver babies out of hospital. This matters because it stops the triage and L&D from being full and harming infants, as well as the person in labour and postpartum. Midwives can also swiftly head to a home where birth is happening too fast to make it to a hospital, alleviating stress from our already breaking EMS services.

2) Midwives reduce the amount of medicalized assisted births such as the use of vacuums and cesareans, and unmedicated births cost less!!

3) Midwives are currently over capacity now, because the on site hospital midwives support inductions and people who shift to high risk. Again this helps relieve stress on the nurses and OGYNs.

We need people. We need moms. We need pregnant people.
We need anyone with a uterus. We need anyone who has used a midwife in their birth or knows someone who benefited from a midwife, to write and insist that fundinding towards midwifery in AB is essential to help with cutting costs to our health care.
