I wish I’d known that when you’re an athlete doing lots of running, your body can actually interpret that as stress. It doesn’t see it as training hard, it sees it as danger. The result? A struggling thyroid.
Overexercising, especially when combined with underfueling, becomes a major stressor that elevates cortisol and suppresses active thyroid hormone. This imbalance can lead to fatigue, muscle loss, weight gain, and that frustrating feeling of “exercise intolerance.”
Finding balance is key. High-intensity workouts need to be supported with proper rest and nourishment, because chronic overtraining can worsen thyroid dysfunction and slow down your metabolism.

Hi, I’m Nancy! 👋
I haven’t introduced myself in a while, so here’s a little about me (and yes, I had to jump on the trend :-) That’s my new caricature, and I love it!).
I’m a pharmacist and certified holistic nutritional consultant, and the founder of Nancy’s Nourishing Spoon. I help busy women and moms with hypothyroidism reset their energy and metabolism naturally through functional nutrition so they can feel calm, clear, and in control again.
I love creating personalized wellness plans that support thyroid and hormone health, and I also offer functional testing when needed.
Outside of work, I’m a mom of four (three boys and one girl), an ultra runner, and a big fan of cooking, gardening and reading.

This 15-minute Beef & Broccoli stir-fry is a total staple in our family — quick, nourishing, and packed with protein. It’s one of those recipes I share with my clients all the time because it’s simple, delicious, and supports balanced energy (without spending all evening in the kitchen!).
Here’s how to make it:
(4 servings)
🥦 158 ml bone broth
🥦 1/4 cup coconut aminos
🥦 4 garlic cloves, minced
🥦 2 tsp fresh ginger, minced
🥦 2 tbsps arrowroot powder
🥦 1 tsp avocado oil
🥦 567 g flank steak, sliced against the grain
🥦 6 cups broccoli florets, chopped
In a small bowl, whisk together the broth, coconut aminos, garlic, ginger, and arrowroot powder until smooth.
Heat a skillet over medium heat, add avocado oil, and cook the steak for 3–4 minutes. Add the sauce, stir, and cook for another minute. Add broccoli, cover, and cook for 3 minutes. Serve and enjoy!
💛 A quick, wholesome dinner that keeps everyone happy and energized.

For years, I tried to fit into the box of what “health” was supposed to look like.
Follow the rules. Don’t question the lab results. Keep pushing through the fatigue.
But deep down, I knew something wasn’t right. Not just for me, but for so many women I was seeing.
Women who were told their blood tests were “normal,” even though they felt anything but.
So I stopped apologizing.
For trusting women’s intuition.
For slowing down instead of pushing harder.
For blending science with soul, because healing is both.
I’m done shrinking my voice to make others comfortable.
And if you’ve ever felt dismissed or misunderstood on your health journey, I want you to know, you don’t have to apologize either.

‘This is how my holistic journey to adrenal fatigue recovery began.’
Let me tell you about my personal experience with hormone imbalances.
I am an ultra-runner. In 2014, I trained for and completed the Canadian Death Race as a solo runner. The Canadian Death Race, is a 125 kilometre foot race through the Canadian rocky mountains in Grande-Cache, Alberta. It includes three mountain summits, one major river crossing and 17,000 feet elevation changes.
In order to run that race, I was training full time for 10 months, while working a full time job as a pharmacist and taking care of my family.
While training, I started to experience signs and symptoms of adrenal fatigue such as brain fog, irritability, constant fatigue, anxiety and trouble with sleep. After the race, the same symptoms amplified and new ones appeared such as palpitations, shortness of breath and I started to get injured all the time. Running was becoming more of a struggle than a passion.
After undergoing endless tests at the doctor’s office and being told that everything was ‘normal’, I started researching my symptoms. This is how my holistic journey to adrenal fatigue recovery began.
Let me introduce myself.
My name is Nancy Bisson. I am a Pharmacist and a Certified Holistic Nutritional Consultant. My passion for the endocrine system (everything hormone related) and my personal experience with adrenal fatigue, hypothyroidism and PMS are the reasons why I specialize in helping women who are suffering from hormone imbalances.
My mission is to help women reclaim power over their bodies through Optimal Nutrition, Professional-Grade Supplements and Healthy Lifestyle Recommendations. I am a firm believer in Integrative Medicine. It is by addressing the root cause of hormonal imbalances that we can reduce our dependence on the medical system. Because, while medications can treat a condition, lifestyle interventions are the real path to lifelong wellness.
I am also a mom of two wonderful boys. We are a very active family who loves hiking, fishing and traveling.
