This year’s Alberta Blue Cross Toy Drive once again brought the holiday spirit to life. Through the generosity of our team, we collected toys in support of two incredible organizations, Leduc Santa’s Helpers and Santas Anonymous. 🎅

Leduc Santa’s Helpers visited Alberta Blue Cross to receive a donation of toys, with a special focus on items for teens and older kids based on their most-needed list. Hearts of Blue helped supplement what was collected in the bins to make an even bigger impact.
The remaining toys were delivered to the Santas Anonymous toy depot, and Hearts of Blue also made a $1,000 donation to help fill any gaps and ensure more children receive a gift this holiday season.

Thank you to everyone who donated and made this year’s Toy Drive such a success. Year after year, our team shows up in a big way, and we cannot wait to do it all again next holiday season. 💙

Workforce wellbeing covers so much more than we think—reproductive health, mental health, aging, loneliness and movement all shape how people show up at work. And they don’t exist in silos. Supporting one while ignoring the other aspects leaves real gaps.
What we’re seeing is clear: one-size-fits-all wellness programs do not work anymore. The data tells the story:
• 40% of Canadians say they feel lonely some or all the time
• 1 in 5 adults aged 65–74 is still working and bringing valuable experience and stability
• Untreated menopause symptoms cost workplaces $3.5 billion each year
The takeaway? No single program can meet the workforce’s needs. Modern workplaces must support the whole person.

It’s already been a busy month for our Hearts of Blue team, and we’re proud to support 2 more incredible Alberta organizations through recent donations 💙

The Aboriginal Counselling Services of Alberta received 30 ARC cards and 10 grocery gift cards to help support individuals and families in need. Aboriginal Counselling provides free, culturally sensi-tive mental health and healing services for Indigenous individuals, families and communities. Their work includes family violence support, trauma counselling and resilience building for children, offered both in person in Edmonton and remotely across Alberta.

The SPARK Foundation of Lloydminster received a Smart TV along with essential shelter care items and comfort supplies. SPARK provides supports that help women, children and youth build safety, wellbeing and healthy relationships. Their services include an emergency crisis shelter, transitional housing, the Lloydminster Community Youth Centre, community education programs and dedicated services for men and older adults.

Albertans are feeling a mix of adventure and caution as they plan their 2025 travel. With 31% of Albertans planning a U.S. trip, the highest rate in the country, global uncertainty has half rethinking their plans. Albertans are also keeping pace with the rest of Canada in how they use AI to plan their trips, leaning on tools to compare prices, build itineraries and find destination inspiration.

Most travellers (73%) still plan to explore Canada this year, but cross-border travel remains strong.
These insights come from the new 2026 Blue Cross Travel Study, which offers an inside look at how Canadians are navigating a changing travel landscape.

This year for , our employee-led Hearts of Blue team is honoured to support the Edmonton Food Bank and other local food banks across Alberta through a $50,000 donation made possible by our employees and partners. Our Hearts of Blue volunteers were excited to deliver a donation in person to the Edmonton Food Bank and spent the morning helping build hampers in the warehouse.

The Edmonton Food Bank creates and distributes more than 35,000 hampers every month, helping ensure individuals and families have access to essentials when they need them most. Their volunteers and staff work tirelessly to keep shelves stocked, hampers moving and communities supported.

We encourage anyone who is able to consider supporting one of our many amazing local organizations across Alberta, whether through a donation or by volunteering your time. These organizations are deeply rooted in our communities and play a vital role in ensuring people across the province have access to resources, care and stability. https://ow.ly/lhp750XyO1W

We have been busy the past few weeks, and in the best way.🫶

As we head into the holiday season, our team has been honoured to give back to organizations across Alberta who make an incredible impact in their communities year-round.

Recently, we supported Family Services of Central Alberta, a nonprofit providing preventive and early intervention support since 1970. Their work strengthens families and communities through ac-countable and innovative programs built on care, connection and dignity.

Our Red Deer team also donated to Central Alberta Women’s Emergency Shelter (CAWES), a lifeline for women and children experiencing domestic violence. CAWES offers 24/7 helplines, emergency shelter beds, outreach, safety planning and the compassionate support individuals need during critical moments.

In Edmonton, we made a contribution to the Adopt-A-Teen program. This program ensures teens aged 13–17 feel valued during the holidays by providing a gift card that allows them to choose some-thing meaningful for themselves. It’s a program built on generosity and the belief that every teen de-serves to be seen.

These organizations show what community looks like at this time of year. If you’re able, we invite you to follow, support, donate or share their work to help expand the impact even further.

Our Story

More than 60 years ago, a small blue cross became the symbol of a bold new movement to help Albertans struggling to pay for medical care. Alberta Blue Cross began as company dedicated to helping people pay their hospital bills in an era when universal health care didn't exist.

Alberta hospitals were behind the formation of the Alberta Blue Cross Plan in 1948. Under an Act of the Alberta Legislature, the Associated Hospitals of Alberta (AHA) was incorporated and permitted to establish a voluntary, pre-paid, not-for-profit Blue Cross plan. The Plan essentially served as an extension of Alberta's hospital sector, offering a province-wide hospital care plan for working Albertans. It gave patients affordable coverage for hospital services. At the same time, Alberta hospitals gained greater financial security because the Plan paid patient bills.

Today, we deliver a broad range of health benefit programs and services across Alberta. We’ve made a commitment to be present in the lives and communities we serve and to support and promote health and wellness across them. Our vision is to play a larger role with our customers, providing them with a lifetime of benefits.
