With the significant rise of the popularity of yoga, as well as growing scientific support touting the list of benefits, yoga is being recognized as a way to improve physical, mental and spiritual aspects of our lives. Far more than just stretching and mobility, people are looking to yoga to calm the nervous system, clear the mind, and help heal physical injuries and emotional trauma.

The YAA is here to support the spread of yoga across Alberta.

1. Visit our Teacher Directory to find a teacher near you.
2. Visit our events listing to find workshops, classes and programs that might suit your ability and needs.
3. Become a YAA member to join us for free online classes (x2 per month), webinars, and an electronic subscription to our Yoga Bridge magazine (Free first year for Alberta residents).
4. Consider upgrading to a Full membership to access a full Video Library, print copies of the magazine, and more!

Calling all yoga teachers!

We’ve made it even easier to get your yoga qualifications certified through the YAA, even if you haven’t taken our training program. Why should you consider getting certified through the YAA? Get recognition for high standards of training and professional development, access to community job postings, Advanced Training Levels and mentorship opportunities. You also receive benefits like group discounts on liability insurance, free listings in the teacher directory and events calendars, plus all the other professional benefits of full membership in the YAA.

What is the YAA Equivalency Upgrading Track?

If you have completed a recognized 200- or 500-hour program but do not yet meet the remaining requirements for YAA Equivalency Certification (details on our website), we invite you to enroll in the YAA Equivalency Upgrading Track until you are eligible, with access to group discounts on liability insurance along with all the perks for Full Members.

There is no application fee to enter the Upgrading Track. Full YAA Membership ($30/year) is required and must be kept up to date. Teachers are expected to attend a minimum of 10 hours of training with YAA Senior Teachers over a two-year period and are encouraged to apply for YAA Equivalency Certification once they’ve met the full requirements, listed on our website: https://yoga.ca/training/

Anyone who does yoga regularly will tell you the list is longer than this, including being part of a yoga community, but here’s a start:

✅Mind - lessens stress, increases mood
✅Muscles - improves strength, balance and flexibility, can improve arthritis and back pain
✅Sleep - improves sleep, especially when done before bedtime
✅Heart - can reduce blood pressure and body inflammation
✅Digestion - improves digestion and gut health
