Cartoon Duke here to talk about OCD. Maybe this sounds familiar. “Wait… what if I left the stove on?” You already checked. You know it’s off…but it doesn’t feel certain. So you go back and check again. And again. For a moment, the anxiety drops. But it always comes back. That’s the OCD cycle! It’s not really about the stove, it’s about the need to feel completely certain. What ERP does: instead of checking again, you leave, you feel the anxiety, and you don’t fix it. At first, it feels worse. That’s expected. But then something important happens: the anxiety comes down on its own. Over time, your brain learns you don’t need to check to feel okay. ERP helps you build the ability to tolerate uncertainty, because OCD feeds on the need for certainty. If this is something you struggle with, you’re not alone and it’s very treatable.
