OpenCircle welcomes the Government of Alberta’s advancement of the Alberta Trades Discovery Centre, in partnership with Building Trades of Alberta , Construction Labour Relations Alberta , and Alberta Construction Association

To combat rising workforce pressures in construction, we must provide youth with the opportunities they need to experience the skilled trades firsthand. This pilot initiative is the first step in strengthening Alberta’s workforce pipeline, establishing a foundation for expansion into Edmonton and across the province.

The OpenCircle Scholarship Program has awarded over $1 million since 2002.

A huge thank you to everyone who applied for this year’s intake—our team is currently reviewing submissions. If you missed out this time, keep an eye out this fall when the next application window opens!

The program is open to the dependent children of OpenCircle Member employees who are pursuing post-secondary or technical training at a designated educational institution in Canada. Scholarships are issued on a first-come, first-served basis where general eligibility criteria is met.

While industry benefit plan premiums have seen yearly hikes between 4% and 9% over the last six years, OpenCircle has remained a steady anchor for our members. From 2020 to 2025, we maintained a consistent average increase of just 3%.

In 2026, we went a step further. Our provider transition in January of this year was a strategic move designed to create a lasting, positive impact for all OpenCircle members, their employees, and their families.

Each month we going to recap what the OpenCircle team was up to. We believe building community and connection is crucial in fostering amazing partnerships for our Members.

In February our team was out and about making Member visits, it was great connecting with many of you.

We sponsored Builders Connect Expo, CCA Premiers Luncheon, Alberta Counsel Mixer and the Mental Health Foundation's Annual Fundraising Breakfast. All focused on building connections to strengthen our industry.

The team had a blast at the ECA Funspiel, YBG Winter Golf, Honoring Pink Shirt Day and Hosting a watch party for the 2026 Winter Olympic Games!
