Omega-3 supplements are sometimes recommended for people with cancer, especially when they are undergoing chemotherapy or at risk of weight loss. Some research suggests omega-3 supplements can improve appetite, food intake, and help maintain lean body mass during treatment.

Recent nutrition research emphasizes plant protein source and limiting sources of saturated fat. Meanwhile, the new food pyramid places steak and cheese at the top of the pyramid.
This raises questions about the process for developing the guidelines and how closely they follow scientific evidence.
