Snow shovelling is one of the most common causes of winter back pain.

Here’s how to protect yourself:
✅ Warm up first
5 minutes of marching in place, arm circles, and gentle squats.
✅ Push, don’t lift
Whenever possible, push the snow instead of lifting it.
✅ Bend at your hips & knees
Keep your back neutral — avoid rounding and twisting.
✅ Keep loads small
Wet snow is heavy. Smaller scoops = safer spine.
✅ Switch sides
Alternate your grip and stance to reduce strain.

🚫 Avoid:
• Twisting while lifting
• Throwing snow over your shoulder
• Holding your breath

If your back feels tight or sore after clearing the driveway, don’t ignore it.

✅ Pause before jumping up
Take a few seconds to check for pain, dizziness, or sharp discomfort.

✅ Move slowly
Roll onto your side and use your arms to help push yourself up.

✅ Check your head & wrists
These are the most commonly injured areas in winter falls.

✅ Ice sore areas within 24 hours
10–15 minutes at a time.

⚠️ Seek medical care if you notice:
• Severe pain
• Swelling that worsens
• Headache or nausea after hitting your head
• Difficulty bearing weight
