Stephanie Mackney RMT

Stephanie Mackney RMT Small home-based clinic in SE Edmonton, and at Therapeutic Body Concepts Sherwood Park. I run a small massage business since February 2010.

I'm registered through NHPC since July 2009 and attended Grant MacEwan University Massage Therapy program for 2 years. I am currently available in TWO locations! I love to get out there and spread the word about good muscle and tissue health whenever I can. My hours are quite flexible in clinic and I really like to work for the individual's needs.

I was basically just a goofy, silly, nerdy kid. I wouldn't change a thing.

Why choose a home-based massage clinic?
💠
Since 2021, I’ve welcomed clients into my home clinic in South-east Edmonton; a quiet, comfortable space designed to help you feel at ease the moment you arrive.
💠
Here, treatments are unhurried and personalized, with a scent-free environment and time set aside just for you.
💠
You’ll always be communicating directly with me, making scheduling simple and your care more intentional.
💠
No busy waiting rooms, just a calm, one-on-one experience from start to finish. Direct billing is available for most benefit plans.

Uuuuum. No. 😅

Fun fact: 💠 I primarily did mobile massage from 2010 to 2016. I would still do it occasionally for some regular clients right up until 2020😷. Currently I only do mobile chair massages for businesses.

Mobile massage was such good work. It was fulfilling going out to meet people in their space. Sometimes it was for a nice treat for those just wanting to care for themselves.
Other times it was parents with a new baby at home. Or people with limited mobility.

It was such a great (and often challenging) chapter of my massage career!

Thought it was time to dig up some of my ooooold Tiktok's (from when I had the energy to do such things. 😂). This was 2022.

Tagging on to my post about deep tissue and deep pressure massage from yesterday!
💠
Here are some common myths about
⛔No pain, no gain!⛔
and why that is completely false.

I often hear the same comments about massage treatment from clients, regarding what they need for treatment.

Every person knows their own body better than anyone, and usually knows what works best to feel better.

However there are some common misconceptions about how the massage should feel during and after the treatment.

🔹Science-based massage therapy does not support the use of "pain" to achieve results.
🔹Deep pressure or deep tissue massage will not make the treatment more effective. Especially if it causes pain.
🔹It is important to monitor your body during your massage. Find that balance between discomfort and pain. Communicate with your massage therapist about adjusting technique and pressure.
🔹Effective treatment can be achieved in so many ways. Trust the process and ask questions! We are here to help. 🤗

Common Misunderstandings in the Massage Room:

🔹 Deep Pressure vs. Deep Tissue 🔹

🙅🏼‍♀️ Deep pressure massage is not the same as deep tissue massage. Let’s go over some key differences:

🔹 Pressure simply refers to how heavy or light the therapist applies their techniques.
🔹 Deep tissue is a specific technique used to address deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue.

🔹 Deep pressure can be used throughout the whole body, often during relaxation treatments.
🔹 Deep tissue focuses on specific muscles, fascia, and adhesions that may need more targeted work.

🔹 Deep tissue does NOT automatically mean deep pressure.

✅ Both approaches should include proper warm-up of the soft tissue.
✅ Both can sometimes feel uncomfortable depending on the area being treated.
⛔ Massage should not follow the “no pain, no gain” mentality. (More on that later!)

Tipping your massage therapist.🫰🏼👛
💠
Tipping in the massage industry can feel confusing because there is no set standard. Tip? No tip? How much? 😬
💠
Giving money feels familiar for most in North America as a way to show gratitude.
Many massage therapists are just starting out and tips can help bridge gaps as practitioners become established.
💠
Here is why I do NOT accept tips💸:
🔹Prices are set to reflect the full value of your care. You can relax knowing everything is covered.
🔹Your experience remains simple and transparent. There are no surprises.
🔹I strive to promote massage therapy as health care. There is no need to evaluate or calculate your health.
🔹Your support and trust means more to me than anything. Thank you. ✨
💠
I am ALWAYS appreciative of anything someone does to show their appreciation. There is no "right or wrong" answer to tips. It is simply a reflection of business models, values, and environment.
💠
What matters most is respect for both the client and practitioner so they can each feel comfortable and supported.💞

It’s funny how people say “it’s just a word”
…until that word crosses a boundary.

We are Registered Massage Therapists.
In Alberta, that means minimum 2200 hours of education, a 2-year diploma, extensive study of anatomy, physiology, kinesiology, pathology, assessment, ethics, clinical skills — the whole package.
We’re regulated by professional associations and held to strict standards.

So let’s clear this up:

We are NOT “masseuses.”
That term is outdated, inaccurate, and tied to a history that s*xualized our work.
And yes — it directly affects our safety and the respect we receive.

We work with injuries, stress, chronic pain, postural dysfunction, trauma, and recovery.
We collaborate with chiropractors, physios, trainers, and other healthcare providers.
This is clinical work, not entertainment.

Words matter.
They shape how people treat us, how seriously they take healthcare, and whether a treatment room feels safe.

Massage continues to confuse the public when you can find us in spas, physio offices, clinics, and yes under the guise of “massage” that is really s*x work. So we don’t blame you and are not upset over your confusion. Education is how we invoke change, encourage respect, and get invited to the table.

So please:
If you’re booking a treatment or talking about the profession?

Say Massage Therapist.
Say RMT.

Not “masseuse.”
Not “massager.”

We’ve worked too hard to be minimized by a word that never represented us. A word that diminishes the countless hours of continuing education required to withhold good standing for our licensure, hours of clinical practice of experience, and exhaustive toll our bodies take to support the healing of yours.

Respect the profession.
Respect the title.
Respect the people behind it.

We are healthcare providers.
We are skilled.
We are educated.
We are legit.

Share if you appreicte your Masage Therapist or have one in your life that you love! Help us end the stigma and spread the word!
