PCOS and dieting often trap you in a cycle:

Losing weight, regaining it, restricting food, feeling out of control… and starting over again.
It’s exhausting. Frustrating. And it can make you feel like your body is working against you.

In our latest blog post, breaks it down for us. It’s not your weight that’s the problem, it’s the cycle itself.

Weight cycling is linked to cardiovascular stress, metabolic disruption, and emotional strain.

You don’t have to live in this cycle. With the right, evidence-based support, you can reclaim your body—and your peace of mind.

Some tips to hop off the weight cycle rollercoaster can include:

Eat enough and regularly
Eat balanced meals
Enjoy physical movement regularly that feels good for you

Considering quitting or reducing smoking, alcohol and cannabis use

Drink enough water

Save this for later.

Important note: If you are carrying extra weight, it does NOT mean you have PCOS. If you are not carrying extra weight, it does NOT mean you don't have PCOS.

The inherent weight stigma in our culture and health care system may place a large emphasis on weight loss for treatment; however, PCOS occurs in all body sizes.

Its clinical features are largely the same regardless of body type; however, a larger proportion of those with the condition might be considered overweight or obese. This is only correlative and is not the cause of PCOS.

Due to the metabolic disruptions like insulin resistance and high insulin levels, when the condition is unmanaged, these can lead to unexplained weight gain and difficulty losing weight.

Many of the related conditions like Type 2 Diabetes, and obstructive sleep apnea have a higher prevalence in individuals with PCOS and occur regardless of the body mass index (BMI).

Weight-inclusive, evidence-based management strategies should be offered to people in larger bodies, other than just weight loss which can be very challenging for people with PCOS and can have adverse medical, metabolic, and psychological health impacts.

When do we suspect PCOS?

We use the Rotterdam Criteria, you need 2 out of 3:

1️⃣ Irregular menstrual cycles
2️⃣ High androgens (symptoms or labs)
3️⃣ Polycystic ovaries (optional—not always present!)

Diagnosis shouldn’t take years, but for many, it does. If you suspect you may have PCOS, it's time to talk to your health care provider. Advocating for yourself matters.

Share to spread awareness with your circles

A colonoscopy lets doctors see inside your colon and re**um using a thin tube with a light and camera.

They can:
Spot polyps or cancer
Remove polyps right away
Take biopsies for further testing

It’s both a diagnostic and preventive tool—and essential in higher-risk situations.

💬 What’s one question you’d ask before having a colonoscopy?

Did you know...

After a gestational diabetes (GDM) diagnosis, Diabetes Canada recommends breast/chest feeding for a minimum of 4 months to reduce the risk of neonatal hypoglycemia, childhood obesity, and diabetes in the child.

But this month is about the Mamas!!

Did you know that breast/ chest feeding in people diagnosed with GDM is helpful for them too!

Ziegler's group found that nursing after a GDM diagnosis reduced the median time to a type 2 diabetes diagnosis from 2.3 to 12.3 years!

Please note:
Breast/ chest feeding is not always possible and it is rarely easy. This post is meant for information purposes only and is not intended any way to shame those who choose not to or cannot breast/ chest feed.
